Nanjing Day Two-Tyler & Tucker Today we got to sleep in a little bit. After breakfast, which wasn't much, we took a 45 minute bus ride to the Nanjing Massacre Museum, which was a huge downer. The Museum, which is massive, displays the atrocities commited by the Japanese against the people of Nanjing during the years preceding WW2. The used bones of the victims, weapons used by the Japanese, and first hand testimonies by the survivors of the massacre as evidence of what the Japanese had done. It was heavy to say the least. After wandering through the mass grave of 10,000 bodies, (real human remains!), we were caught in the gift shop by probably 20 Chinese people taking pictures of us. After the Nanjing Massacre Museum, we took another 45 minute bus ride to go over a bridge crossing the Yangtze River. It was actually pretty cool. It was a double decker bridge with us on top and a train going under us. The Yangtze River is really interesting because it runs from East to West, instead of North to South like most rivers. The Chinese refer to themselves as Southerners and Northerners like we do, but they classify themselves by which side of the Yangtze River they live on. After the trip to Yangtze, which was really just driving over the river, we didn't do much. After eating at Pizza Hut (which was actually extremely nice), we made our way back to the hotel where just chilled and worked on our projects for a while. What we did next was an interesting experience. Mr. Lee had organized a scavenger hunt for us to do around downtown Nanjing. He gave us a list of things to take pictures of, most of them were pretty easy to find. Although Chinese people take pictures of us, it was a little ackward at times asking people to take pictures with us. Tomorrow we're taking a two hour train ride to Shanghai on a bullet train. It goes from 120-180 m.p.h. That should be pretty interesting and we're all looking forward to the last city on our trip!
