Good-bye, Farewell!

Well, this is it. We got an email this morning officially kicking us off this website once and for all (unless we pay the 50 bucks to keep it running). It hardly seems necessary to keep a "get jealous" site living in Philly, although that's a point to be argued with our friends around the world that have never traveled to the US. Okay, well, there's no acutal point to be argued, but we needed a...

HOMECOMING

I'm sitting in my father-in-law's house in the woods, surrounded by home, remembering all the times I updated this thing in far-away places scattered around the world. Tiny cafes on dusty streets at midday, sipping lime water. At the top of hill on an island in Thailand, writing quickly in case the power went out again. Snuggled in a blanket against the cold in China, determined to post the goi...

Semana Santa en Guatemala

it's about 98 degrees outside and the hot midday sun has forced even locals inside for siestas. it's two days after easter in flores, guatemala, and the town is slowing down after the intense celebration of heyzoos christo this past week. flores is charming, with cobblestone streets, gaily painted houses in bright yellows, hot pinks, turquoise and yellow. local men with large cowboy hats sit...

Caye Caulker

I woke up at 6:30 am this morning and ate locally-made tortilla chips with Marie Sharp's homemade extra-hot habenero sauce on our balcony this morning with a 1/2 gallon of water. The sun was still low, so we hopped on our rented bicycles to explore the uninhabited part of the island, south of the cabana we're staying in. After our bike ride past the nature reserve along the Caribbean Sea, we ret...

whirlwind

Let me just start by saying it may take weeks to recover from what we just went through.... hours and hours of plane flights, layovers, running through airports, mailing things from various US cities, moving from Asia to Central America.... it's a whirlwind adventure so far and actually, I wouldn't recommend that travel itinerary to anyone. Here's the jist of the schedule we endured for the past ...

first moments in the States!!

We're back!!!!! We can't believe all the products, foods, and EVERYTHING available here. SO GLAD TO BE BACK!!! It's weird to hear everyone speaking English and smiling at us. We're in Miami now, waiting for our flight to Belize this morning. All said and done, we flew 20 hours, plus a 12 hour layover in LA to send our bags home UPS. So, now we're free -- only a backpack, guidebook, and time....

Farewell, Asia

A year ago today we arrived in Seoul International Airport in the morning on a red-eye from Bangkok. We were met by a Korean speaking no English, who led us to an unmarked van bound for Bundang, just south of Seoul. Aaron fell asleep on the 2 hour ride, but I could do nothing but wonder... what will this year be like? what have we gotten ourselves into? can I do this!?!? We arrived and we...

ARE WE THERE YET?!?!?!

ARE WE THERE YET? ARE WE THERE YET? I feel like a little girl... ARE WE THERE YET?!?!? When you've been counting down the months, days, hours, and seconds until you can get home, I've found the absolute worst thing you can do is obsessively keep track of things with a work calendar. Until the morning you actually board the plane out of here, no matter what, there are days you must get throu...

THAW

The weather finally thawed today, giving way to the smell of spring, light sweaters, and hiking. The only thing to do when all you have is each other... is to... climb. High. I mean 4 hours of hiking high above the town, looking down on cities. Making you sweat buckets in your sweaters. Out of breath because you've been sitting on your butt all winter. THAW. I thawed out on the mountain tod...

Out and About

It's been so bitter cold here. The kind of cold that makes your nose run, reddens your face. The kind that makes everyone scurry inside, blowing on their hands, breathing hard. I remember these types of winters as a child with my hood up and wiping my nose on my sleeve. Until today, when the cold snap finally snapped and gave us a glorious autumn-esqe day. We headed out with the camera, snapp...
