Paget's Big Adventure
|
A Cold Snap Yes, we know it’s February and it’s miserable and cold in the UK too, and at least we don’t have to go to work but, Zut Alors, it’s bloody freezing! We can understand the duck pond freezing, but the toilet bowl? It takes about 10 minutes to dress in the morning and as long to get ready for bed as we peel off our multiple daytime layers to replace them with night time ones. Double duvets on the bed and hot water bottles – we are tempted to retreat to the van – at least it’s a small space to heat. Apparently there’s been more snow here this year than in the 8 years Simon’s lived here – just a covering really, although Bill tried to go skiing an hour away last week and had to turn back as it was blizzarding in Lannemazan. Apologies for harping on about the weather but it’s a 30 degree differential from the climes our friends Paul and Tracy are experiencing as they explore Morocco in their camper van. Mopping up the flooded toilet at 6.00am this morning and waiting for the dogs to come back from wherever they keep absconding to did make me question our sanity. No doubt we will be complaining about the intolerable heat when summer comes – I hope so! On the plus side, we’ve had some great walks with the dogs and an excellent excuse for warming and hearty lunches out – unfortunately our nearest restaurant on the dog-walking route is superb – potage, 3 courses and wine for €11 – a different menu every day, no choice but who needs one? Paget has not had the greatest of weeks either. He caught tick fever which laid him low for a few days (treatable with an injection, but more risky for an older dog), and has had to have a very dodgy haircut to keep the snowy ice balls off his paws (looks like the sheep dog in the Specsavers advert). At least he likes the cold and provides extra togs when he snuggles down with us – it’s a healthy 5 degrees in our bedroom.
