Geraldton WA Visited the HMAS Sydney memorial, the organisers and builders have done the memories of these sailors proud. The dome is made up of 645 gulls to represent the total lives lost aboard. In the memorial pool there 644 doves painted around the edges with a large metal dove in the centre (No. 645) with its wing tip at the point where the Sydney lies with the coordinates printed beside it. The 645 men who lost their lives that day represents over 1/3 of total lives lost by the navy during WWII. Saw heaps of erosion along the foreshore at Geraldton as we have with most of the coast we have been to throughout Australia, pretty close to quite a few main roads. (quite scary in places) Geraldton also has the tallest Lighthouse in Australia (see photo). We left Geraldton Tues 24th July for Kalbarri.
