The ECOG Meeting in Fort Lauderdale took us to the sun, when all the rest of the country were freezing. The hotel overlooked the beach and it was a welcome respite for me, even thought there was plenty of work to do.  In between work (or perhaps as part of the work)  I had 2 lovely social occasions - dinner with Dan Haller was again very entertaining, as always - we love to gossip together and there is always lots to chat about - a wonderful man.  Also had lunch with Carlos Vallejos, a man that I very much admire - a Peruvian oncologist, after a successful career in MD Anderson, who returned to Peru and became Minister for Health, where  he was able to effect much change for the better.  We had a lovely lunch to talk about how we could do more together to get clinical trials to Peru and and thereby access to medicines for the millions of poor there.  I have known him for a number of years and was blessed when he asked to have our photo taken together - something I have always wanted.  He is a lovely man, a gentleman and yet has achieved so much for oncology in Peru.  Although this is all work, it is a privilege and  my pleasure indeed..........
