Bye jungle, I'm going back to the city

My flight from sandakan back to Kota Kinabalu was early morning so I was up and out by 6.30am. I was happy to be going back to the city after my few nights in the almost jungle (I don't think it really counts as full on jungle as I was only 2pm from the main road). I'd not slept properly for 3 nights due to a combo of geckos in my room, a door that didn't lock properly, the loud snorer next door and one night of storms so bad my whole room was shaking. I was staying in a different hostel than the previous one and as my arrival was early the offered me breakfast and a well needed cup of tea. My fellow roommates happened to be two very nice girls from Leeds. It was lovely to have some company after 3 nights in the jungle on my own. I think I may even have been delirious with excitement that they were from England too! My mission for the day was to get booked on the mountain climb and get the supplies I would need as well as treat myself to a Starbucks. Once all booked on the mountain climb I needed to get a warm hat, a head torch and some gloves. The head torch was relatively easy to get, finding wooly hats and gloves on an island that has perpetual heat is a little more tricky but I eventually succeeded in getting something that would do. I also stocked up on high energy foods for the climb as well as a few chocolate treats to keep me going. My northern roomies invited me to join them for dinner (their friend was flying in that afternoon too so there would be 4 of us). It turned out they were doing the mountain climb 2 days after me which was a shame as I could have joined them if my flight back to KL wasn't already booked. It was a lovely evening, one too many beers were consumed and I finally got to bed at midnight. Given I was supposed to be up at 6 the next day for the climb it wasn't the most sensible thing to have done but I was enjoying the company! When I woke in the morning the nerves had set in but off I went to climb a mountain!
