Breaking the Routine
30th Nov 2011 - The Long way home...
Day 72

Thankfully we managed another longer lie, this time 8am. Burns by now was really beginning to struggle with whatever was in her foot. It was clearly getting worse and extremely itchy during the night and mornings. Today though we were heading back along the crap road to Chipata where we hoped to see a real doctor.

We arrived at camp where we managed to find two South African medical students who diagnosed Burns illness as Sand worms!! Yuck!! Burns actually has worms in her feet. Not good and from what I can see and hear extremely annoying, itchy and painful! Thankfully the girls knew what to do. They wrapped her feet in bandages and poured vinegar over it to draw out the worms. As I type we are chilling with a bottle of wine hoping the vinegar is killing the wee bliters! Nikko our driver is in town as we speak trying to get the medication needed to go along with the vinegar. Fingers crossed this kills the worms and the severe itching Burns has had to put up with.

Overall the last 19 days have been a great experience. We have seen so much and experienced loads including game drives, lions, elephants, slaughtering a pig and visiting local schools. The stinky clothes the long drives we can handle. The people on the truck and even the annoying Canberra girl are great banter. We feel we couldn’t have got a better bus, sorry English people but there are no English people on the bus and its great!! Our main problem has either been tiredness or bugs. The bugs in our room at night are very difficult to deal with. Some people don’t mind but Burns and I struggle with them. We are now very much looking forward to getting to a nice hotel and eating at a table…inside!
