Corcovado and Beyond

La Paz

La Paz is the highest capital city in the world at 3660M above sea level. It's built on a mass of sprawling hills and valleys. The buildings once again appear to defy gravity and cling to the super-steep slopes. Opposite to most cities, the richer people live in the lower lying regions of the city. This is because there is more oxygen present there and the air is easier to breath!

You can feel this with even the smallest of energetic activities. Waling up the stairs in the hostel is even really tough! You have to stop and rest every so often if yu decide to go and walk around town. What we found quite effective too was walking down the hills then getting a taxi back up them! :)

I had heard claims that you can buy anything you want in La Paz, so one day I set off to find a Kindle. It's been my biggest regret that I didn't bring one with me. English books, or actually 'good' English books are not that easy to come by here. Lots of the hostels have book exchanges but there's not always something I want to read... So, my hunt for a Kindle started with the Black Market. It's absolutely enormous with stalls of all shapes and sizes and tiny winding alleys between them. They're so close together you lose site of the sky sometimes. The market is divided into sections according to category kind of like an outdoor department store. The electrical section had tonnes of shops, all selling the same things. You can buy almost every electrical item your heart desires... except a Kindle!!! My search will continue to the next city :(

I've met a Swiss girl, Alexandra, and we're both going the same direction so we're going to travel together for a while. We've booked to visit Rurrenabaque in the Amazon jungle to do a pampas tour so that'll be my next update.
