Osterley House

Hi All,

Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago, Emma and I headed out to Osterley House to explore what is called the one of the last surviving country estates in London.

Once described as 'the palace of palaces', Osterley was created in the late 18th century by architect and designer Robert Adam for the Child family to entertain and impress their friends and clients. The first floor and floor you enter in is very decorative and full of Robert Adams quirks with carpets mirroring ceilings and lots and lots of details. The first floor up is less Robert Adams, more simply designed bedrooms, ensuites, dressing rooms and the ground floor is where the house staff lived along with the kitchen, washing room etc.

The gardens were interesting and very big. There was a walled garden however this was laid into vege patches as they are not sure how these would have looked at the time, but it was really one big park like garden.

A nice few house away from London and enjoying the estate.
