Cathye's Adventures
|
Hue to Hoi an Having come down from the highlands the temperatures have risen somewhat along with the humidity. Today was no exception, 38 degrees no less. Our route took us around the coast on minor roads which is only another way of saying doing battle with bad roads, road works, chooks with a death wish, goats with a similar outlook on life, wayward cattle, piles of produce spread out on the road, maniacal drivers, the odd stretch on highway one, and of course the heat. The route took us through Da Nang famous for American activities during the war and also where we saw what must be a record for peopl on a scooter. 5 adults yes adults pottering long. The poor little 50 cc bike somewhere under them. They were all dressed in the same outfit obviously a maintenance crew in day glow orange. What employer needs to provide a van for transport when you have employees that can do such circus tricks. Accommodation that night was at the riverside resort and did I mention the swimming pool? The heat and humidity was of suicidal proportions so we were forced to counteract any thought of doing without and toughing it out without a pool swim or 20. Cathye and Liz took advantage of a shopping spree and had several garments made (yes we make you a dress in 24 hours madam). Several pairs of shoes were also obtained. Peter managed to not buy anything - "I dont need anything and I will only have to carry it around for the rest of the trip.". Adrian managed to quietly buy 2 shirts without us knowing. So it is in Hoi An that we left the rest of the group to fly south to Ho Chi Minh city to start our trip to Cambodia. It was here that the dreaded Asian tummy bug got me (Peter) and confined me to barracks for one day. Cathye took advantage of the day to do a bus trip to the Cu Chi tunnels a network of about 200 kms of tunnels from the war. Peter had instructions to update the blog and rest.
