Ashton Panel & Paint HOBM Tour
1st Jul 2012
Day 2 - Match Day - Warnervale Wildcats

The day started early with the piercing sound of kookaburras - while it was still very dark. The boys had all slept soundly and wok at a reasonable hour for breakfast at 7.30. There were the options of scrambled eggs, sausages and toast and/ or a choice of serials and fruit and yoghurt. Good stuff and a good feed to go into battle on...

The bus ride took about 2 hours to the north. The weather was fine and dry although cooler than yesterday. We arrived in touring strip and trachsuits and were greeted by the boys, their coached and quite a few hangers on. We were told this is a fixture they often talk about and look forward to. We were shown the visitor changing roomsand the U11s quickly set about donning boots etc.

Prior to the U11s kick-off the full team did the haka - U12s at the back. It was truly rousing. One ex kiwi Mum from warnervale said it brough a tear to her eye. A coach of theirs said after the game that although they talked of being unphased prior to the game, there were a view wary glances after facing it. This really did set the boys off for what was a great spectacle - both games but for different reasons

Match report: - U11s

We got  off to a great start with a try in the first few minutes to Loketi. A great run down the touch-line, ran around the backs and scored under the posts. The conversion attempt hit the post. The forwards played well driving over the ball. The backs were well supplied by Samuel and controlled by Terell. Scoring was abundant so we tried new positions for several players - saving some some of the bigger boys for cameos in the U12s game. A great first hit-up for the U11s, heaps of confidence and they really enjoyed themselves.

Full time score: 74 - nil, half time: 31 - nil.

Tries: Loketi 2,Pono 2, Pilikimi 2, Josiah B 2, Hamish 1, Damian 1, Samuel 1, Reuben 1.

Kicks: Tirell 7 conversions.

Players of the day (as judged by Warnervale officials) were: Miguel and Loketi.

Match report: - U12's

This Warnervale team is currently sitting in 2nd place in their home competition and it was evident from the kick-off that we had a game on our hands - they ended up 5m from our line from the first movement. However, our boys struck first. Five minutes in for the first try and another shortly after. Both tries scored by captain and hooker Mikey Leach.

A torrid battle over the next 20 minutes saw us scoring another four tires by half time to lead going into the break to lead by 36 points to 5. Warnervale changed some players for the 2nd half (a couple of older rep players appeared - they must have used phone- a- friend!!) which rattled our players and before we knew it, they had put 33 points on the board. With 7 minutes remaining, they scored under the posts and converted that vtry to lead 45 - 41. Our boys never gave up. They played as fiercely as ever over the last 5 minutes and scored a try through Fritz with 2 minutes to play. Fritz converted that try from out wide to finish the game.

Full time score: 48 - 45, half time, 36 - 5.

Tries: Mikey 3, Like 2, Fritz 2, Zack 1.

Conversions: Fritz 2, Zack 2

Players of the day (as judged by Warnervale officials): Fritz and Jayden

Warnervale were wonderful hosts after the game putting on a significant feed and drinks.

Boys had showers once back at the Collaroy, dinner, then group meeting, video and are now getting into bed.
