6.19 Monday 25th Feb Hola!! Thanks to everyone who has posted messages on the board, great to see everyone is well. Im in a beautifull place called 'San Cristobal De La Casa', and what a place. Everywhere I go the places jsut get more and more beautiful, and the people get more and more nicer! The jetlag is starting to where off, so Im not feeling like Im spaced out all the time now, thanks to drinking ltrs of water a day. The weather has been perfect, hot, hot anf hot, I think it got up to 32 the other day *whew*!! Ive been to so many places now I cant remember, but yesterday we arrived here, took a quick wander around the place, then we got into a cab (and all of the cab drivers are mental!!) and went to a huge canyon, I cant remember the name of the river, but it starts in Guatemala, and I think ends in the Gulf of Mexico, but any hoo, it was the most amazing thing Ive seen. Crocodiles where sun bathing on the bank, got lots of photos, and they where huge... vultures where hanging out on the bank as well. At one point, one side of the canyon was 800mtrs high, and was the spot where many Aztecs jumped to their deaths rather than being captured by the Spaniards. A very haunting place. Today we went to a small village about 20min from here, and it was like walking back in time. Taking photos is banned there, as the locals hate tourists, but love you if you buy something, so we got some figurines, and all was well. We visited the curch there, and it was soooo weird. The locals have managed to combine the Catholic faith with their own pagan faith, so the church was full of crosses and pentagons, candals where burning everywhere, the floor was covered with pine needles, and the main figurre at the altar was John the Babtist, Jesus was popped in a corner somewhere out of the way! People were worshipping by chanting, and they even had a couple of chickens for sacrifice! Nice. We stood in a trance watching it all. Very eye opening. I totaly forgot Alex was in Wellington, and tried to call him twice in the weekend, and got quite upset that he wasnt answering. Opps! Alex - delete that last message!! Im glad you had such a great time, and that Gato enjoyed his holiday away from home. Still missing you all heaps, and wish you where here enjoying this culture shock with me. Will call you very soon - maby tonight :) LOVE YOU!!!
