Harry and Judy's RV Trip
16th Aug 2017 - Summer 2017 Part II
Day 42-August 16, 2017-Town of Bandera and the 11th St. Cowboy Bar

Day 42-August 16, 2017-Town of Bandera and the 11th St. Cowboy Bar

Hot and humid again 98

Harry pumped up the tires this morning while I looked at maps and campground books and made some reservations.  We changed our minds (again) last night about where to go in the next few days.   I think we now have a plan. Drove into town and walked around for a while, not many people shopping although the main street (all 2 blocks of it) is bustling with traffic.  Bandera is on the Texas Hill Country Trail and quite a big tourist spot. It’s all about the cowboy.  Went into Old Spanish Trail Restaurant and split a chicken burger for lunch.  The restaurant has a bar with saddles instead of stools and the salad bar is a covered wagon.  Shopped for some groceries at the only store in town then back to the campground to read a bit.  Still trying to hunt down the owner to pay him, we’re probably going to have to leave a check in his office, it’s always open but he’s never there.  It’s Wednesday night which means it’s steak night at the 11th St. Cowboy Bar, the “Biggest Little Bar in Texas”.  You bring your own meat (whatever you want) and then cook it on huge grills.  They supply the utensils and seasonings and you can buy baked potatoes and salad.  No frills at this bar, bras hanging from the ceiling inside and they only serve beer and wine.  But the action is outside in the back of the bar.  There was a great country western band and  two-steppers who know what they’re doing.  And the dance floor (if you can call it that) and patio are cooled with huge fans so it’s quite comfortable.  You can tell there are quite a few locals who are here all the time and everybody seems to know everybody else.  A lot of old-timers and a sea of cowboy hats and boots, on both men and women.  Not as many people as the last time we were here and a few people mentioned that maybe it’s because schools are starting.  Harry and I took a few spins around and around.  Back to the campground to pack up, on the move again tomorrow.
