Be back before you know it
13th Nov 2009 - Honeymoon
Day fifteen-back on dry land
Our 11 day liveaboard in the seas of Sulawesi has come to an end, with lots to tell you....but no photos!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Garbett/Bywater (now just Bywater) bad luck has struck again!
Since our last blog we have flown from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru, then four buses later (where most sensible tourists would get one nice a/c taxi) we were in Singapore. A day spent around the shops then the following day we flew to Manado, Sulawesi. Felt quite important when we were greeted with our name board at arrivals. Our first introduction to the country were a group of children saying 'hey mr'. We set off in the minivan to the port, only to return to the airport as we'd forgotten a passenger.
The liveaboard had 10 guests, 4 Hungarians and three French- you don't realise how much you enjoy the company of fellow Brits until you've listening to other languages for 11days. That said, the Hungarian group were a good laugh.
Our bad luck relates to the problems caused by paypal, a supposedly easy method of online payment, won't go into the details but it was a stressful few hours trying to release funds to pay for the trip. In the end one of the other passengers, Janos came to our rescue. After meeting him literally two hours before, he lent us about 1,500quid to pay the balance!!
So day one of the trip and we were looking forward to the morning dive to de-stress. That was until we surfaced to find the underwater housing had leaked. = one broken camera + upset steph and martin.
So over 11 days we have been to some amazing islands, watched lava flows from the volcanoes, dived with dolphins (a glance), turtles and sharks... and no photos!!
After a sad goodbye with hugs all round from the crew we departed today and are back in the city.
New camera just bought, and sat in a posh 4 star hotel lobby on wifi. Martins upstairs drinking his body-weight in Bintang beer, as I deprived him onboard, owing to the lack of cash we had to pay the bar bill + decent tip.
Going to the jungle tomorrow so will have limited access again, but hopefully we'll have some photos to load next time.
Thanks for the messages.
