A Smiling Bear Bed and Breakfast is situated 6 miles from downtown Kodiak on Monashka Bay. Kodiak Island, also known as the Emerald Isle, is extremely lush. It is located approximately 250 air miles southwest of Anchorage in the Gulf of Alaska. The City of Kodiak is the main city on Kodiak Island.
A Smiling Bear Bed and Breakfast is situated on an acre lot in a relaxed, quiet setting surrounded by spruce trees. There are two deluxe suites - the Master Suite (Bear Suite) and the Executive Suite (Ocean Suite) in the house. The Executive Suite is on the ground floor and the Master Suite is on the second floor. They both feature a queen bed, double sofa sleeper with 5" pillow top mattress, private entry, stand-up shower, master bath with Jacuzzi tub, and hair dryer. They also include a dining table with chairs, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and amenities basket with tea, coffee, sugar and sugar substitute, hot chocolate, cream, and popcorn. Besides there is a TV with digital cable premium channels, WIFI, telephone, DVD and VHS player.
The ground floor suite is handicap accessible. The second floor suite has an additional room with a queen bed available for larger parties. A full or continental breakfast is served (special diets upon request).
Travelers can enjoy a great view of Monashka Bay on the large decks with deck furniture and a gas BBQ grill. Monashka Bay Beach boasts a breathtaking view: Kodiak's mountainous terrain, the wildlife, lush greens, and wild flowers. The wildlife on the Emerald Isle is abundant: whales, sea otters, harbor seals, over 200 species of birds, buffalo, red fox, deer, and elk. Occasionally, you may see Kodiak brown bears, river otters, and mountain goats.
A broad range of interesting activities is awaiting for you here. Those who are fond of saltwater fishing may take advantage of half day, full day or multi-day charters available. Also bear-viewing is especially popular on Kodiak Island. The best way to see a Kodiak bear is in the company of a knowledgeable guide. Local air taxis provide full day and half-day viewing and float trips.
With many rivers and lakes, Kodiak Island gives excellent fishing opportunities. All 5 species of Salmon can be found here. You can fish on your own or hire a guide. Those who want to see Kodiak's wildlife from above can take a special plane trip.
