Les and Val's travels
15th May 2012
Yellowstone

Wow,what a fabulous place.we hadn't even got into the park before we had a close encounter with buffalo. The place is amazing, wonderful sights at every almost every corner. The Yellowstone grand canyon has amazing coloured walls and impressive falls and we wlaked along the north rim of the canyon. We were lucky enough to see a grizzly bear albeit a long way off, as you can imagine there was a lot of excitement and sounds of clicking cameras. Lots of bison, some elk, ground squirrels and chipmunks to be seen too. The volcanic activity is also very impressive with lots of small geysers, bubbling mud, fumaroles but the smell is sometimes overpowering! We have been really lucky with the weather with almost perfect conditions for sightseeing. We managed to walk a couple of miles on trails but at over 8000 feet I'm afraid we were both feeling the strain at times especially on the up slopes! Looking forward to more sightseeing and Old Faithful tomorrow.
