Normanton Well we arrived in Normanton at the Tourist Park which is right in town, cost $30.00 per night, they put us down the back as they told us there were celebrations on over this week-end, the show, the camp draft and the rodeo. They also told us that there would be a street parade on at 5:30, so we decided once we were setup to go and have a look at it it was a bit of fun and as always see video and photo's. While I was taking some of the pic's one of the floats throw something at my feet a local lady stepped up beside me and said that's yours love, pick it up. So I looked down and saw this roll, when I picked it up it was a Honda T-shirt rolled up, I handed it to Doug to hold for me and Beau decided it was his so he jumped up and took it out of Doug's hand. Doug took it straight back and Beau was disappointed, but now my new shit is in the wash. The winners for best floats were 1st - The Farmer Wants a Wife, 2nd - The Pig Mobile, 3rd - Old McDonald's Farm. We then strolled back to the park to find a car stopped and being searched by the police, they were there for sometime and apparently found something that our other campers believe to be drugs, he was arrested and the ute with a dog box on the back with 3 pig dogs inside was just left there. It turned out that the ute belonged to the husband of the girl in the van next to us, and he now has to face court on Monday for possesion of a large amount of drugs, it appears the police were waiting for him so someone must have dobbed him in because as soon as he arrived they swooped. The little 2 1/2 year old form the van likes to come and pat Beau she thinks he's lovely. We went out for a drive to Karumba today and it's the fishing capita, l there were boat trailers everywhere and a lot of them were Victorian's apparently they come each year for the fishing and to sit out our winter. Other than cheaper desiel nothing much there. On the way back we checked out the free camp area that Linda Clarkson had told us about which is about 20 km out of Normanton on the way to Karumba, nice spot right on the river but it was very crowded we ran into a couple we had meet at Mount Suprise with their dog Jess. They got in early and had the best spot on the bank over looking the river they said they just had to be vigilate with Jess as there was a report of 2 salt water croc's in the river even though it is fresh water. (see pictures) Today the 9th we are going on a 2 hour train trip on the Gulflander, you can also do a trip from Normanton to Croydon and either stay overnight and return on the train the next day or get coach back the same day. The train trip was good and we meet some other travellers, one group on the trip brought 2 eskies full of wine and beer for 8 of them on a 2 hour trip? Any way they enjoyed them selves and so did everyone else.
