We headed to Zebra Rock Camp it was suggested by the info centre in Katherine and what a great place cost per night $20 all unpowered sites, tea and coffee free at the reception/shop any time you want it and for a gold coin donation you can have fresh made scones with jam and cream, or if your hungry fish and chips for $10 only suggestion is maybe take up your own cup as it gets busy around morning and afternoon tea and they tend to run out of cup if a few in.

They told us to park any where we like but don't crowd your neighbour, your allowed fires and the staff go out and get the wood each day and come to each camp to see if you want more wood (no charge).

Showers are solar so the best time is in the afternoon when the water is at it's hottest, basic one block shared for both men & women.

No phone or internet unless you go to the look out, and no TV but who needs it all the time.

When you check in they tell you about Minnie the Moocher, she got the name from mooching food from all the campers and the word is "No" Minnnie she knows that word, her and Beau became great mates and she would come up every morning to say hello. (see photo's)

They have 3 tours you can do, The Mine Tour which is free, the fishing trip for 3 hours for $50pp only 6 people at anyone time on a trip and the nature/sunset tour $70pp.

We did the mine tour the first day it was very interesting we had never heard of Zebra Rock before or see it, Ruth was very open and informative about the rock their lives doing the mining and how it is all done.

The Zebra Rock Mine Camp has only been open for 3 years, from April to Sept season the rest of the time they are mining the rock and making things from it jewellery, ornaments etc.

We didn't do a fishing trip, it was booked out anyway people were staying till the Saturday just to be able to do it, they said it was a lot cheaper and better than around at Kununarra.

The sunset/nature trip was great for $70 you left at 4pm and got back around 8pm,  with nibblies and drink supplied. The sunset was spectacular (see the photo's) in one you can just see the moon with the sun going down.

They feed sea eagle close to the boat so you got a good look at them forgot to take a close up, oh well, and when we went on the island they stop at you cannot believe all the brown butterflies that look like dead leaves in the trees and if you shake the trees they all fly about you before landing again. There where lots of other bird life and croc's as well to look at along with great company and a great host, would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

Doug and I enjoyed our time here so much we wanted to stay another day but had to get on to Kununarra where we were booked in for the next 4 nights.
