Euro tandem 2012
13th Jul 2012
(Jour 43) Barcus

André and Maïté arrived today and we all spent the afternoon decorating the local Salle des Fêtes for the extended family get together planned for the following day. In the evening a kitchen singalong rehearsed songs in both french and basque in readiness for the next day. One rollicking number is called Les fêtes de Mauléon and I was jokingly assured it is known around the world. (From subsequent research on Google, it was written in the sixties by a prolific basque local song writer, Pierre Bordaçarre Etxahun-Iruri, and from YouTube it seems it’s very popular at local fetes, with brass bands, and especially with rugby crowds.)

Diary Photos

View still fascinates

Taking a walk around the farm

Did we mention the view?

Cows sure can turn a track into mud

The girls demonstrate their skills with the crutches

Is this an alien space ship?

Lunch in the shade

André gets in the mood after arrival from Paris by TGV, bus and car

Cows hardly have time to enjoy the view

Daunting place to decorate for a party

Set up starts

Well, at least there will be somewhere to eat

This is a good sitting down job

More of the family arrives to lend a hand

How does this look?

No, it has to be higher

Cooler tonight, so dinner in the farmhouse kitchen

And a big hello for Alanna & Kieran
