We'll have a couple singapore slings We arrived in Singapore and were so surpirsed to see clean toilets! They actually have flushing toilets, no bucket of water - and you can throw the paper down there! Going up in the world! We got the MRT to the hostel which was only a pound and was really easy. We checked into our dorm which was 12 beds.... was really weird being back in a dorm again as we hadn't had once since Vietnam, but was 16 pounds each for a bed - we'd been getting bungalows in Thailand for 5 pounds between us so had to be done. We wandered around the town the first night and went to the cinema to see Spiderman - the cinema was mega loud... and freezing! Everyone in Singapore is really fashionable, there are massive shopping malls on every corner. The next day we tried to get up without waking people up and get ready to go out. We got the train to the Marina Bay to have a look, we had a quick look at the Gardens by the bay which were only opened 2 weeks ago, it was sooooooooooo humid so we didn't stay for long and then decided to look around the colonial area. We saw the first cathedral of Singapore and lots of old buildings, then we took a walk to Raffles hotel. Was soooo nice! So jealous you got to stay there Nan and Gramps! We, of course, went for the singapore sling.... 30 dollars each!!!!!!! (15pounds roughly) they were amazing though! We met these 2 Americans who were really funny, when he got the bill he was so shocked lol. We had the monkey nuts that you just throw on the floor once you are done. The hotel looked so colonial and you could just imagine them all sitting in there having cigars and whiskey and slings... They have this old fan system where a rod pulls the fans over your head - any ways that was really good and then we went to the Raffles Museum which was in the hotel. Learnt all about Sir Raffles and how he made Singapore the modern day city. We saw all the old pictures of all the famous people who went to Raffles and how it was the best hotel all the old newspaper articles etc. We then went to the National Museum of Singapore. That was really good - they gave us an i-pad and we listened to all the stories of how it was Singapura and how it was made into a free port and all the boats came in and traded. Was one of the best museums! We went that night to find some cheap food and came accross a hawker centre near little india which we got a big curry for 3 dollars each?! That night we were expecting our friends Lauren and Nick from up north to come and stay with us too. They arrived at about 3am whilst we were in bed - they said even in those few hours that they tried to sleep they couldnt as they had fleas or something in the bed and were up all night itching! Nick eventually slept on the balcony! We got up early the next day to go to Singapore Studios (universal!) We got the MRT and then another skytrain to the studfos. We were told if you have been to Florida it is a dissapointment but it was actually really fun! We went on a few kiddy rides - then we went on the Jurassic Park ride (your fav Mum C!) and it was slightly different but same jist, same with the Mummy and a few others! We went on some rollercoasters which were really good and then went on the best ride of the day - Transformers! It was basically exactly the same to spiderman in Florida! All 3d but in a simulator that has no roof - feels like you are outside and in the movie! Megatron grabs the car and you get swung all over the place! We went out that night to.... the four floors of whores....! Nick and Lauren used to be in the Navy and they said that whenever you would turn up to a new port all the guys would go to these sort of places! They said all their friends from the Navy came to this one when they were in Singapore and if we wanted to go with them! So we did hahaahha. It was this really big tower - orchard towers and the first bar we went in was a country and western bar!!!! OMG I was in heavennnnnnnn - Rob was not! lol. There were lots of women just sitting around waiting for men to talk to... really good music though! Then we went to the next bar which was a nightclub and there were loads of women in there dancing and trying to get men.... one woman called Helen kept coming up to talk to us - we didn't know if they were ladies or not...! It was pretty harmless but really funny just for a few drinks... We had to get up the next day for our flight to the long awaited Sydney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi to everyone back home hope the weather eventually picks up!!! Glad you had an awesome birthday nan - it sounds amazing a good weekend of partying! :) Will def try and skype sometime soon!
