Sydney! We flew out of Singapore to Sydney, at first when we checked in we thought we were flying via Cairns because our original flight was via Cairns, but after confusing the lady at check in we realised we were going direct! We got on the plane and it was really comfy - we watched 21 jump street, the hunger games and some TV. We had een up all day as this flight took off at about 8pm, we flew through the night and then got a taxi the other side - omg it was freezing!! We so were not used to this weather after 4 months in Asia! It was so cold, but so exciting to be in Australia! We got a cab but hadn't written down the address of our hostel so he dropped us in the area of Kings Cross where we were staying. We thought we would go into Holiday Inn and use their wifi, so after spending 7bucks on coffees to get the wifi we had the address - we were standing right opposite the hostel! It said on the website reception opens at 7am... so we are sitting on the steps at waiting for them to come to the front door - the management were a bit lazy and we weren't let into the warmth until about 745 - when one of the guests opened the door on his way out! We had booked a 6 ed dorm and the manager said 'We don't actually have any of those so i'll put you in one of the staffs bedrooms?' It was OK for us though because was a private room! We had that for 2 nights and then checked out to another dorm but it was a bigger 4 bed dorm with just the 2 of us so we were quite lucky in the end. The manager said to us 'I'm sure your gonna wanna go out straight away and sight see?' We were like NO we have been up for over 24 hours and want some sleep - he was just trying to get us out so he didnt have to change our sheets, so after getting the new bedding we had a long nap! We woke up later on that day and there was supposed to be a pub crawl around Sydney where you pay 7 dollars and you get a meal and lots of discounted drinks. We turned up right on time and the manager said that no one was up for it because they all had a mad weekend lol. So he gave us the voucher for free and we went and had an amazing massive dinner for free!! I had pasta and it was huge - Rob ordered chicken schnitzel with gravy and mash and it was practically a whole chicken! We thought we would check out a bar ourselves so walked into a nice looking one and saw they had Reckorderlig(really nice cider!) at home they are about 5.50 a bottle - we were shocked after she had given them to us we realised they were 15 dollars each!!! No more of those again ever! We got up early the next day and went on one of the free walking tours of the city! We weren't staying that far away so could walk into town in about 15 minutes. It is really big and clean and spacious, not like London where you have lots of people running past you - just really quiet! Of course we got told England has more population than the whole of Australia! We met this really sweet woman Brenda and saw these funny looking ibis birds which are everywhere - really big with big beaks lol. The guide told us all the history of how Australia came to be and how the fleets over here were very unpleasant and the hospital was made by selling rum! It is now called the Rum hospital - it has a big pig outside asnd if you rub his nose it is good luck?! We went to the QVB (Queen Victoria Building) and inside there are two clocks - one British one where every hour the clock strikes you can see the beheading of King Charles the 1st! The second clock is Australian. He was saying their Coat of Arms is funny because they are the only country to eat both animals on it! The kangaroo and the emu lol. We learned all about the old days and when we got to The Rocks he explained how they had their first hangings there - the first man to be hung got his sentence for stealing a bit of pork and butter :( We walked up to the harbour area and there is a little island where they sent the bad convicts for their crimes. He told us the story about how Australia got fired upon by mistake in the War, lots of interesting facts then we went up and took a look at the bridge and the opera house! Amazing! That was a good day, we went back to the hostel and saw Nick and Lauren had arrived. We decided we were going to go to Melbourne and work, but after speaking to everyone in the hostel and out, the said we were crazy when it is so cold down there right now! We went out the next day to get some warm clothes as didn't have any! We found a cheap shop called k mart and got a few things, we decided that we really wanted to go to the Blue Mountains so looked into a camper van or hire car that evening! Lauren really was not interested in the Blue Mountains- she was so funny! She kept saying we shouldnt spend the money and whats the point to go there and look at a load of trees and mountains? Good for 10 minutes but no more than that! Rob and Nick were trying to convince her it was amazing and a must see but she was not having it and didnt want to go! Was so hilarious because Rob said ' You know who you sound like? Carl Pilkington' (idiot abroad) was soooo funny!!! hahah she was ready to kill him by the end of the night lol! XXXXX
