Adam and Janīs travels 2005-06
|
New Year New Country Met Adam`s parents and spent a wonderful week or so driving around the south island seeing the sights (again!) and then some we hadn`t yet seen in the north island. A highlight was definitely the whale watching where we were up close and personal with four of the huge beauties. Plus gushing geysers in smelly sulphuric Rotorua. Christmas at Adam`s cousins in Whangarei, all in all a great ending to a great trip to a beautiful country. And then it was onto another beautiful country, Australia, or more particularly, Tasmania. Spent a few days in Hobart watching the yachts coming in from the Sydney-Hobart yacht race. Hired a car and spent a week travelling around visiting gorgeous beaches, magical rainforests, mountains, strange moonscapes created from mining, camping in the great Ozzie bush, catching fish for our campfire. Saw Tasmanian Devils, wombats, kangaroos, echidnas, deadly snakes, colourful and noisy parrots, kookaburras and more wildlife than we can remember and Adam woke up with a scorpion one morning. Saw in 2006 in the Returned Servicemen`s Legion club in the small Tasmanian seaside town of Swansea, and were invited back to stay with some (drunk) locals in their country home. We left this beautiful isle behind and headed to the "north island" as the Tassies like to call mainland Australia. Just 24 hours in Sydney revisiting all our favourite haunts from previous trips and tomorrow we fly to Hong Kong. We have now officially been all the way around the world and are on the return leg. Happy New Year to everyone. Sorry no photos for a while (technical difficulties) but will update soon.
