Coffs Harbour We arrived in Coffs after a long 7 hour coach journey at around 11.30pm. Since we arrived so late we couldn`t get picked up by the hostel but we also couldn`t find a taxi either. Ended up walking a few kilometres carrying our rucksacks but I suppose the exercise will do us all good (some more than others!). Our hostel has turned out to be our favourite one we`ve ever stayed in. Quite small and everyone was very friendly. Since it is off season we even managed to have an entire 8 bed dorm to ourselves for the entire week we were there. Highlights of Coffs Harbour have to include the infamous punch nights laid on by the hostel. For a mere 6 dollars (for some reason all of the evening activities from pizza to punch cost 6 dollars here) you got as much punch as you could drink. And then they even took you into town to some frightful bar/club where the drunkeness continued. Eventually our inebriated states led us all down to the beach although the details of what went on here are best left unmentioned. After all, we want to keep this site suitable for all the family! Apart from the drinking there was surprisingly a lot to do in Coffs, especially as for almost the entire time we were there the weather was beautiful. Aside from the very nice beach there was a jetty leading to an island that you could spot whales from (we didn`t see any though) and George had a surfing lesson (knarly dude!). We also went kayaking down the creek as the hostel lent you them for free. The final day involved a trip to the world famous `big banana`. For those unfortunate enough not to have heard of this monument it is basically a giant banana made of carbon fibre. That`s it. Nothing else to do there. Except get a frozen banana dipped in chocolate (mmmmmm, tasty). Next stop Byron Bay.
