Sharpie's big skive!

Ozzie update! Hello again....I was meaning to do this ages ago, honestly I didn`t actually realise it`d been so long since I`d been on last! Sorry! Just to let you know I tried to put some new pics up for you all but in the process of doing it I managed to destroy the hostel`s computer....Jane, they`d love you here! Okay following on from my last entry... So I`ve told you about the Harleys and the flight... what I didn`t tell you is that the next day Bruce took us flying again this time in a four seater plane. We had another girl join us who wasn`t expecting Bruce to cut the engine. When he did she literally went green, she was so scared. To stop her feeling so sick he got her to fly the plane instead, funnily it worked. We were only supposed to go up for 30 mins, however we were out for over an hour and a half. We landed on the beach, had some lunch and then carried on flying around Agnes Water for a while. When we landed there was a woman on ground who was crazy as she thought something had happened as we`d been so long! You can see her point! We`ve also been to fraser Island. For those that don`t know it`s the world`s largest sand island. There was a group of 18 people and we got split into two 4x4s, nine people in each. We were given a rough shopping list for which Jo and I had had to buy food for nine people for three days (just think of supermarket sweep and you`ll get the idea). A suggested itinerary and the places we chould visit on the island and a 4x4! We spent three days and two nights camping on the island. We cheated a bit, we had to put up our own tents however we had a base camp where there were toilets, showers and BBQs. Others we`d spoken to had absolutely nothing, except for a spade and some matches to light a fire! We had such a laugh, luckily everyone in the group was easy to get on with. There were a couple of occasions where we could`ve fallen out, but in the end it turned into a joke! Firstly, Craig a guy in our group drove the 4x4 into the soft sand (after we`d told him to go into the harder sand) and got it stuck. So we all got out, and his idae was for us to all jusp in where in gainned momentum....I doubt it! Anyway, he was paranoid that he`d get stuck again (eventhough he wouldn`t) and drove the whole lenght of the beach without us, about 2km! Dave his mate was running by the side of the van for a bit, until he started to run back towards us. I thought this was a bit weird until saw that he was being chased by a dingo! At this point the rest of us were shouting at him to run back in the other direction! Nice aren`t we! The second time involved Craig again! We went for a gentle 2km walk through the rainforest, at the end of it we got to a sand track. The signs didn`t actually tell us how to get back, however Craig had been to Fraser before and had done the walk before and knew the way. So, as you would we followed him......for 5km before we reached a sign that pointed back the way we came! We ended up walking for about 12km! It was funny though and added to the whole Fraser experience. the other group had similar mishaps....like getting into the wrong van (ours) bu accident and eating all our sweets! Overal, Fraser island was a great experience. I had a go at driving the 4x4 through the sand tracks which was great fun. The island is reallty beautiful and it`s a wonder how so much vegetation can grow on a sand island. Our next stop from here was Noosa which Ithink I`ve already mentioned before. Noosa is such a pretty town, from here we went to the zoo.....and if i forgot to mention it we saw Steve Irwin!!!! Jo also had an `eye opening` experience in the laundrey at our hostel....for those that know her I`m sure she`ll tell you! After being in Noosa, which is a pretty, quiet, seaside town we headed off to Brisbane. It was really strange, but as we arrived in Brisbane and seeing the grey highrise buildings I got such a sinking feeling in by stomache. We`d been staying in some really nice coastal towns and the thought of staying in a city was daunting. We got to the hostel, checked in and checked straight back out! It was a total dump...however we have been so luck as this is the first one that`s been bad. We got into a taxi (argued with the taxi driver as we thought he was taking us the wrong way, until he showed us and actually we were wrong, but anyway he stopped the meter) and wnet to another hostel which was really nice! We only stayed in brisbane for a few days....not my fave place so far. Oh, here I tried kangaroo which was quite nice! From one built up City to another...next we headed to Surfers Paradise, which we actually liked! we`d heard mixed reports about it but decided to go anyway to make up our own minds. Yeah sure it was a bit tacky with the neon lights and high rise buildings but it was different to everywhere we`d been already. One morning we woke up early to go Whale watching as it`s this time of year all the humpback whales migrate up north to give birth. We saw a few and got close to a couple but none breached out of the water. We also spent a day at movie World which is one of the big theme parks along the Gold Coast. We felt like we were five years old...30 mins before the park closed we went back to their biggest ride `Superman` and went on three times in a row! It was awesome! 0 to 100km in two seconds! Okay I`m going to leave it there for today. I promise when i can i`ll add some more pics for you! Take care everyone, Leys
