Florence Arrived in Florence, dropped our stuff off after a hot trudge along the street, then went for a wander. We were stopped in our tracks when we came round a corner and saw the `Duomo` in front of us. It`s the cathedral in the centre of Florence, with a green, pink and white marble facade. Totally stunning! Loads of lovely sites, and a few bars where we managed to sample a few local beers. Walked for at least 8 hours one day. Went up the top of the dome of the cathedral and could see the whole of Florence. Went to the Galleria d`Accademia, and saw Michaelangelo`s David - he`s huge! Walked over the river and up a great big hill, and had a well deserved beer when we got back down again. Had to try lots of Italian ice cream too. Miriam also persuaded the girls to go on a day trip cycling in the Tuscan countryside, taking in a winery on the way, who also made lovely olive oil, and is owned by the son of the prince of Italy! The countryside was gorgeous, the sun was hot, and one of the guides on the tour was from Edinburgh! Big highlight of the trip, tho` our bums were a bit sore the next day ;o) Left Florence reluctantly for Rome, with our great big pasta bellies in tow, and to meet up with Emma to see how she got on in Croatia.
