Real Aussie Living!

When I wrote the last blog I joked about extending the Australia portion of the trip...I have since telephoned the airline and we will now be arriving in New Zealand a little later than expected!!!...Too much to do here!!
We spent the best part of a week in Byron Bay in the end, which is my favourite place so far in Australia I think. One morning we decided to walk to the lighthouse about 8km from the hostel, to see the sun rise over the most easterly point in Australia! It was truely spectacular, as the sun peeped up over the horizon the light shone on the ocean and illuminated the migrating humpback wales and the dolphins jumping below us. We didn`t actually get around to doing a skydive in the end as I think we got too caught up in the chilled out atmosphere at Byron and decided to do it further up the coast, maybe in Cairns.

Finally dragged ourselves away from Byron a few days ago and headed north to stay with some old friends of my parents on a real Aussie farm just outside of Kingaroy which is a few hours from Brisbane. We are staying in a lovely house, the views from the window are spectacular and they have their own vineyard!!...I recomend the Verdellho...fantastic!! We had a few guided tours of the farm yesterday, one was very interesting and educational, we learned about the local farming, grape growing, and about the various local wildlife. The second tour consisted of being driven around in the back of a ute (Big Pick-up) at silly speeds on the bumpiest tracks you can imagine by Phil (who is the 21 yr old son of my parent`s friends)...this was excellent fun and certainly one of the more frightening activities available in the locality!
Richard seemed to really enjoy the experience...being a towny, I think the highlights for him were seeing real cows and being allowed to drive a quad bike...Phil and I couldn`t stop laughing at the excited grin on his face!! Today we went for a ride to the local town of Towoomba and then on to the Bunya mountains national park for some phenominal views of queensland and some really interesting wildlife. A spider even ran accross my foot and yet I am alive to tell the tale...who`d have thought it?
I believe tomorrow we will continue on up the coast to Noosa, Nina has volunteered to drive us there which is wonderful of her and I have heard many good things about Noosa so that will hopefully be fun.
How is everyone doing back there...bet you`re not having as much fun as me hahahaha!! Speak to you all soon, bye for now xxx
