Los Angeles, California!! Take One... Heyo!!!!! Well I finally made it to the city of angels, Los Angeles! I stayed in Santa Monica on the recommendation of fellow travellers and its pretty good! Minutes from the beach, pier and shopping area of Santa Monica. I actually went back in time flying from Fiji to LA, its was 10pm on the 12th Oct when I left Fiji and 1pm on the 12th Oct when I arrived in LA. Weird!!! Im now 8 hours behind you guys instead of 11hours ahead! My first day in Santa Monica I had a walk around, I went to the beach and dipped my foot in the Pacific Ocean (yes its sad I know but it was fun for me!! ). Then I took a walk along the pier (as featured in Forrest Gump) saw some good views, and got a couple of souvenirs. There was this guy there doing sculptures of your face in something instead of the normal charicatures! It looked really cool and I am so getting one done when I go back!! When I walked along the beach on the other side of the pier they had like a playground for grown ups built on the beach. They had big swings and them ring things the gymnasts do. They even had like a Hang Tough thing like from Gladiators! So going to get the guys to try it when my family finally get here next week!! Woo!!! The second day I did a LA city and stars tour. It was cool!! I got to see Lisa Kudrows house (Phoebe from friends) and she has a statue thing stuck on the side of her house of Rapunzel letting down her hair. I saw Jim Carreys house with loads of ornamental animals in the garden. I also got to see the houses of Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Goldie Hawn, Arnie, Dudley Moore, Phil Collins (garden only) and I think a couple of others I cant remember right now.... After this we headed down through Beverly Hills to Rodeo Drive. I took a stroll along there doing a bit of window shopping. I went to the loo in the Regency Beverly Wilshire Hotel, for those of you who dont know thats where they shot Pretty Woman! They had individual fluffy white hand towels and Molton Brown hand wash and lotion. Then we all loaded back on the bus headed for Manns Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood walk of fame! I saw loads of cool stars - Elvis, Beatles, Robin Williams, Harrison Ford, Mickey Mouse and Kermit the Frog! Then I had a look in the Theatre entrance thing where they have all the hand and footprints. I took a good few pictures but no one was with me so I couldnt get a photo of me putting my hand in them! There was Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, Doris Day, Cary Grant, Steven Seagal, Harrison Ford (again) and they even had a special one for Start Wars with R2D2, C3PO and Darth Vader! Woo!!! Next stop was the Hollywood sign from Mulholland Drive. We weren`t very close at all but it was a clear view of both it and downtown LA. After this we went to Universal Studios City Walk for lunch and then to Downtown LA to see Union Station and Olvera St - where Los Angeles was founded. They had a fab little mexican market there, but I didnt buy anything coz it all said `Mexico` and I hadnt been so.... I was tempted by this gorgeous shawl thing but I figured I probably wouldnt where it so gave it a miss even though it was cheap as chips!! This was where the tour ended so when I got back to the hostel I took a stroll around the shopping area in Santa Monica (I wish I had money!!) and then walked to the beach to watch the sunset. All very nice!! Sarah xx
