The Last Visit

Last weekend I went back to Elverum, home of the relatives. This was my third and last visit, and I enjoyed it greatly. I arrived after dinner time on Friday. We enjoyed a very typical Norwegian Friday night with lots of TV watching and snack eating. Among others, we watched the season finale of "Skal Vi Danse," which is Norway`s version of "Dancing with the Stars." This show is a huge deal in Norway. A popular Norwegian comedian and his dance partner won the competition against Norway`s greatest female handball player of all time. It was quite entertaining.
On Saturday, Astrid and I went to pick up Marit before going to the bunad shop. Jan, Marit`s husband, greeted us as we arrived and made me get out of the car to look at his moose head. He and his moose hunting team killed 13 moose this season, and he got to keep one of the heads. Marit, an anatomy teacher, thought it was great fun to dissect the moose after cutting out the meat. This kind of joy definately runs in the family.
Marit, Astrid and I went to the bunad shop to pick up my finished bunad. It looks great, and I am excited to use it on the Norwegian independence day, May 17th. I will add a picture of it shortly. Afterwards, we checked out a julemarked, a Christmas market with hand-made goods. Marit made a fabulous dinner for us all that evening. All of Marit`s kids were there, but only Morten was home last weekend of Astrid`s kids. It was another joyful event, packed with great food, liquor, and, of course, an awe-inspiring dessert.
I left early on Sunday morning in order to get back to Bø at a reasonable time (it takes 6 hours of bussing to get from here to Elverum). Although I visited for a short time, it was great. It was sad to leave and not know when I will see them again. However, I was reminded of how lucky I am to have such wonderful family, all over the world. My trip here to Norway really has been complete meeting Astrid and Marit`s family, and I am so glad we have a connection now. Now, we just need to convince them all to come to the States for a visit...

Say Cheese
This is me in my bunad, looking as cheesy as I can during the modelling session.
