plymouth - Banjul challenge
10th Jan 2007 - 12th Jan 2007
Sahara

For safety and to keep the cost of a guide down we entered the
>Sahara desert in a group of 7 cars, us in our Beetle, a fiat uno, a renault
>19, a welsh ambulance, a pink flowery jeep, a fiat cromer and a peugeot.
>Conditions were so harsh, with the worst sandstorms in over 7 years, that
>only 4 cars made it through the 3 day off road section. The fiat cromer,
>renault and peugeot were all claimed by the desert bringing about the
>theory
>that to complete the challenge you must choose an impractical or silly
>coloured vehicle! The teams who`s cars died were taken in by the welsh
>ambulance and their luggage divided between the rest of the vehicles.
On the first night the big Berber tent was blown down burying half the group....my cheap Tesco tent stayed up!
The second night we camped on the beach where the Sahara meets the sea. Chris gave Matt a driving lesson in the Fiat Uno....he hit the Ambulance!
