Waltzing my Matilda

Australia Day

It`s the morning after the most bizarre Australia Day I`ve ever had! I was meant to be working in my hostel in exchange for free accomodation, but it turned out someone else was working, so I had the night off. Beth, an Aussie from Albury, and I bought a bottle of Vodka (no I lie, she bought it and I did yet another IOU(still waiting on my new cards)) and finished it off before going to a bar that had been advertising an Aus Day beach party, with sand in the bar and Aussie alcohol. We invited a Canadian called Maddie along, then split a cab (no, Beth split a cab (IOU)) with another Aussie called Leah who was working there, because it wasn`t walking distance. When we got there it was dead. I told the boss there that I had heard that he needed people to clean up the sand. He laughed at this, because when he came into my hostel to put up signs advertising the day, I asked him "Who`s gonna be the poor sucker that has to clean up the sand the next day?!" and now I was volunteering to help, because I need the money so bad!! Anyway, he said to be there by 1.
Then we caught a taxi back into town to within spitting distance of our hostel, to a pub that also had Aus Day Fests on, and was rocking. Met some nice Kiwi boys, who said that they were working at the University, but I turned out that they were only 17 and 18 and that one used a fake I.D. to get into the pub! Beth and I (I can`t believe this) accidently forgot Maddie and left her there, and walked down to meet a mate of mine called James that I met in Dublin, and that lived here. When we found him we caught yet another taxi to a party. When we got there it was a sad mix of fat, hairy, lesbian hippies, and scrawny middle aged men, pretending to be cool! Beth and I dance like maniacs in the loungeroom, whilst the odd crowd looked on, obviously amazed that people could smell like soap and perfume (aw, the miracles of showers), and then we moved to the kitchen and ate all their cheese, corn chips and hummus. After James (who is a bit odd, himself) started rubbing himself up against Beth, she excused herself and walked over to me and said "Pretend you`re sick, or something! I wanna get outta here!" James lent us some money for a taxi (because Beth`s money wasn`t stretching THAT far), and we headed home to bed, after what felt like a very full night, but actually ended before 3 am!! Totally odd night!
