Puerto Nariño and more

well folks, been kickin´ it in Puerto Nariño for a few days, amazing little town 2 hours north of Leticia, Colombia (Amazon) by boat. There are no cars, no motos, and i didnt even see any bicycles. the streets are narrow for walking only and everyting is impeccably clean, no trash on the ground, heavy fines for throwing trash etc. Its cleaner than most small towns in the States.

If you´re going to Leticia and Puerto Nariñ, here are a few good tips-
1)in Leticia, stay at Mochileros, its cheap 15k (15000 pesos, roughly 7.50 u.s. dollars) a night, the people are cool and its better than other places you spend more money at. Also, go to the Bar/club Karana on the road to the airport, we are recording 3 groups there tonight and its just a killer place made in the likeness of a giant Maloca (traditional jungle hut).
Also, to eat go to El SAbor and Tropical, both good and cheap.

IN puerto nariño, you could stay at Frys which is a 20 min. walk from the town. the owner hector is cool and its cheap, 15k a night once again BUT.... if you cant stand mosquitoes forget it, this place is on the edge of the jungle and next to the river, it has tremendous views and is quite cool, but it is rustic...no electrilcity, you´re using candles at night etc.
(i will have pics up shortly, also visit www.howlingearth.com for more pics etc)

While there make sure to go to lake terrapoto and check out the dolphins and go for a freaking GREAT swim, yes i swam like the Creature from the Black Lagoon for chissakes in the AMazon river!! (well a lake off the amazon) but just incredible, did a little fishing as well, didnt catch anything tho-

Went to an indigineous peoples gathering, various tribes from all parts of the amazon came to puerto narino, was quite cool with some of the groups and dancing etc. Main focus was on the water systems and keeping the rivers clean, protected from heavy industry etc.

thats it for now, will post again this weekend-
