Work & play in Kaikoura

I`ve started a new job helphing to run a B&B, restaurant & shop and I am finding that all work and no play makes Helene a dull girl!!! :-)

I am working in an Old Convent just outside Kaikoura Town - known for being the place where the mountains meet the sea (perfect for me!) and as the place where the Whales are!  Although I saw the whales last time I was here with Natalie, I haven`t had time to pay them a second visit yet!

The job is really busy and as I live in, I am finding I am working all the time!  I do a little bit of everything ...as one Dutch guest said to me the other day..."Wow you are like 3 people!  You are everywhere...you have twin yes?  I check in it`s you, I go to the bar you serve me, you bring me my dinner and now here you are serving me in the shop!"  So the work is varied if all a bit boring...

That said, being out of town means I`m not spending much money so it`s a good opportunity to save a bit, especially as I`m only earning minimum wage...  There`s a lot of hours and the only time I`m not working seems to be when the UK is asleep, which I don`t want to do long term as I can`t call anyone, or even chat online...  This job is until end Feb/early March, I might stick it until then so I can save a few dollars for my next step...will see how I go...

There are some wonderful benefits to being here.  It`s a beautiful place.  There`s a pool at work that I can use in my breaks (when it`s not raining!) and to get to civilisation I have to cycle or walk 10kms!  So I`m making the most of the landscape and getting fit at the same time! :-)

I did get a day off just after new year so I took the opportunity to go kayacking this time on the ocean to go and visit the seals!! :-)  It was such a lovely day.  The sun was shining and the sea was really calm, and even the seals smiled for my photos!  I attach a few so you can share the experience!

I`ll keep this short and sweet as I have to go...yes you`ve guessed it back to work!! :-)

Love to all Hxxx
