Walking on Sunshine
The weather beckons to us today, the sun bursts over the skyline and blazes at the fast thinning clouds and mist hovering over the water formed from the cold night. I’m still out there with my fishing rod and still catching nothing but frostbite so we are off for a short afternoon stroll to Adams Falls – part of the East Inlet trail head. The sun is dazzlingly bright, but the wind blows the cold down from the snows making it perfect for walking and taking photos. We only went a mile or so up the track, but we came back with a full 100 photos of which its been a nightmare to narrow it down to the selection below. We Visit Adams falls and take a stroll through the trees to get some spectacular close ups, then after a short, savage and breathless high altitude bouldering session we reach a high meadow full of Elk tracks but no dice on the elk themselves. The stream here above the falls is flat, calm and still; mirroring the mountains like a shimmering mirage. The air is clean and fresh, all-be-it a little thin, but that just makes the photos all the better. We finally descend back down lured by the thought of Happy Hour at “Pancho & Leftys” Bar and Restaurant where we get chatting to Lainie who very kindly buys us a drink. We are beginning to feel like Hollywood movie stars by now, first the cabin and now free drinks. Absolutely everyone we met at Grand Lake was friendly, genuine and generous, and they have made it a special place in our memories. The day (well evening and night) just cant get any better, there’s a sunset setting the mountain sides aflame and a full moon illuminating the lake whilst we watch, drinking Baileys in front of a crackling pine wood fire. Can it get any better than that?.
