Temples n' beaches

So from colonial Pondicherry, we headed to Trichy, a town famous for its many temples. It was only a "short" bus ride away and we got there earl afternoon. The bustle of the bus station didn`t say much for th city but once we got in te centre, it was quite nice. We strolled around the old town  looking  for one of the temple. Al the kids were following us, not to ask us money but just to say :"How are you?" They eventually showed us the way and we climbed the 537 steps to the top. The view was really impressve but, as we are not Hindu, we were not allowed to get in. Early the next morning, we headed to another section of the city to visite other temples. These were by far the most spectacular we`ve seen in Inda. It was a huge complexe full of carvigs and sculptures. The darker areas stank of buano (bat poo) but the vastness and complexity of it dwarfed any of our Europeean cathedrals. To think some of them were built as far back as the 8th or 9th century!!! We left in the afternoon to go to yet, another templ town: Madurai. This big city boasts the biggest temple in India and although I had already seen it 6 years ago, I was still impressed. They say there are over 3 million sculptures on and in t!!! Naturally, beign on the list of every traveller, the city is full of touts who want to take us to a carpet shop, a talor of a cheap guest house.  We did manage to get touted through one of these emporiums to "check out the view of the temple" from the roof. True, the  view was impressive, but not as much as the sales tactics of the salesmen who, after you`ve just been through their shop to get to the roof insist that you at leas ttake a look around and buy something nice for our mom or aunt or cat!!!!  As we were starting to be a bite templed out, we went to KanyaKumari. A small, very special place where the land ends. That`s the most southern tip of India and allegedly where th Bay of Bengal meets the Indian ocean and the Araban sea. Where else in the world do you get to bath in three seas at once?!  It was cool but a bit tacky. MAde almost exclusively for Indian tourists, all the knick knack salesmen ave loads of bangles and cheap items to pressure sell us. The next day, we heard there was an water park just 2 km from where we  were so we headed there with the intention of forgetting that we were in India for a few hours and have a lttle fun.  Of course Inda is always different from what you expect. The place was called "Baywatch" . Ironically, there was nothing close to big breasted blond women running around in bikinis.  Vanessa, who, even after 3 months, still gets outraged everytime wmen aren`t regarded same as men, had to wear shorts below the knees and of course a t-shirt that covered her feminine shapes.  It was still a good laugh though. With the wave pool so stagnant  thousands of dead insect were floating on top. The pool was divided in two: One side for men, one sde for women and divided by a rope.  The funest part were the waterslides who actually came close to our western standards. We had intented to spend the day there but after one and half hur, we had enough.  So instead of  spending another night there, we took the first bus out and after many changes made it here in paradise.  We are now in Varkala, a small village whose main attraction is its spectacular beach. It`s just at the botom of spectacular cliffs.  The fresh fish and seafood gets droped off by the beach every evening and for sale in all the restaurants ridiculously cheap. Today we spent all day at the beach. With nothing to do. The waves a pretty strong but t feels so good. Vanessa has trouble staying idle for to long so she had to keep herself busy after a couple of hours. She noticed all these Indian men, fully dressed who keep walking up and down the beach wth seemingly no purpouse. They are actually perving on the dozens of women in bathingsuits  lying all over the beach. As India is so conservative only western women expose their skin. Indian women, if seen at a beach will bath fully clothed.  So for them, it`s like a free peep show  and they`re really not shy to stare. Most Indian men think western women are easy and will sleep with anyone who asks them to.  So Vanessa spent half the day showing her teeth to any men who remotely approached her and when one made the mistake of waving and blowing her a little kiss while I was in the water, whitout hesitation her middle finger was raised and something like "bastard you sister fucker" came out of Vanessa`s innocent mouth. She`s so sweet!!  So even if we`d like, we won`t be able to stay here long, as our trip will soon come to an end and we still have so many things we want to see.   So until the next time,

take care,  keep writing and if you`ve spent all this time reading our diaries, spend a couple more leaving us a message on the board!!

Cheers
