Goodbye Yamba...Hello Zanzibar! Last week was my final week in Yamba :( I was really sad to leave on Friday, especially as the villagers were so kind and generous to us- we got gifts of chickens, handmade baskets and various other things which meant so much. I was shocked everytime we got given something as they all have so little to give. The school threw us a far well party and it involved the usual singing and dancing that I shall really miss. They decorated the playground with flowers so everything looked so pretty and showed what an effort they had gone to for us. I presented the school with the sports equipment I`d brought over from England and gave a rugby ball to each church which they loved and I told them all that they have to continue playing rugby after I leave! Ali arrived last Tuesday and gave 2 talks to the builders and volunteer road builers on health and safety. They went really well and some of the villagers asked him to come back and do some more. It was really sad to leave on Friday and the villagers found it amusing that we were all crying but Yamba has felt like my home for the past 3 months and Im going to really miss the place and the people. On Friday, we flew to Zanzibar in a tiny plane. It was definatley the right way to travel as you got to see the coral reefs and the smaller islands fromthe air. We stayed in stone town for our first few nights and went on a spice tour- which was worth doing- you got to see where they grow all the spices and then got to have dinner whcih included the spices we had seen! Yesterday we travelled to the north of the island to a stunning beach! The sand is white and the water is crystal clear! However, you will be pleased to hear that it is rainy season so the reason Im sitting inside using the internet is beacuse it is pouring with rain outside!!! When the sun does come out though it is lovely and hot!
