Gavin & Helen in SE Asia
11th Apr 2008 - 12th Apr 2008
Leaving Ko Tao for Bangkok

Thursday night we ate at one of the great beach front retaurants and watched couples light floating lanterns and send them up into the night sky. Helen was feeling a little off colour after dinner and a few cocktails so we called it a night. We awoke Friday for what would be our last day in Tao and the Thai islands but now it was Helens turn to be ill. She spent most of the day in bed not well at all, after popping to the chemist for her I spent the day chilling out on the beach. I looked in on Helen a few times during the day but she wasn`t feeling any better. I headed back to the guesthouse just after sunset and found she`d gone to the doctors who had given her a jab in the back of her hand and told her she had been dehydrated probably from the day in the sun whilst snorkeling. Feeling a little better we went for a pizza at Farango`s a little Italian that served up great pizza`s.

We packed up all our stuff ready for Saturday morning when we`d be heading back to Bangkok for the weekend to celebrate the Songkran festival (Thai New Year), do some shopping and head back to the UK, sniffle. Saturday morning Helen was feeling right as rain again, which was a relief as we had a full dayds travelling to do. We left the guesthouse at 9 and headed by taxi to Mae Haad bay to catch the catamaran to Chumpion on the mainland. The journey took us 2 hours we felt a little sad to be leaving Ko Tao and from the realisation our trip was coming to an end. Once in Chumpion we waited a short while for the bus to arrive and take us back to Bangkok, once on the road the bus took about 7 hours. The time flew on the bus while we watched the on board movies Shooter and Stormbreaker, we arrived in Bangkok about 8pm. Once off the bus we had the hard task of finding a taxi driver who`d be willing to use his meter to take us to the Wendy House, a guesthouse we`d booked in advance close to Siam Square.

After changing some money at the 7 eleven, which was packed out with kids buying water guns for the Songkran festival. We flagged down a taxi and were surprised to find a female driver who was quite happy to use her meter. Having stayed in Bangkok 2 times already during the trip, both times on the Khaosan road it made a nice change to stay in Siam Square, which was right smack bang in the middle of the shopping district. In only 10 minutes we pulled up outside Wendy`s and we were greeted by Jantima, the guesthouse receptionist who I`d been emailing to arrange the delivery of the tailored suits we`d bought at the start of our trip. We were annoyed to find the tailors we`d bought our suits from hadn`t delivered them to Wendy`s as arranged, they were closed for the 4 days the Songkran festival was on for so we had hoped they would have delivered the suits as previously arranged on the Friday.

Once in the room we were pretty impressed with what Wendy`s had to offer, nice and friendly staff and all the creature comforts we`d need to relax on our last few days in South East Asia.
