![]() Jo'Burg to Cape Town Have had a fantastic time in South Africa so far! We have spent the past 18 days travelling from Jo`burg down to Cape Town with a tour company called Drifters. Initially there were only 5 of us in our group- Me, Ali, a swiss girl and a german couple but the german couple were only with us until Durban so 5 became 3! It didnt make any difference as we all got on well and our guide was so much fun- we found out at the end of our tour that it was her first tour! Bless! She was great though and none of us guessed, although she did get lost a few times! All our accomodation has been excellent, from seaside hotels, to log cabins, to tents (which werent actually tents beacuse they had tile floors and en-suite bathrooms. Never had one of those at Glastonbury!) All of them were owned by Drifters so were to a high standard. We travlled around in a massive truck, which would be fine if there were 14 of you but not 3! We got to do so many things during our trip. We did a few safaris including Kruger and being on safari is one of the best things I have done. We saw so many animals (no lions unfortunately) and some up close. We saw elepants, hippos, rhinos, kudu, hyenas, buffalos, crocodiles, zebras, giraffes and loads more. One morning we were woken up to the sound of trees breaking andlooked out of our cabin to see elephants walking past! We also did a 5.5 hour hike up the Drakensburg mountains which was unbelievably hard work, especially as it was hot- although there was snow at the top of the mountains!!! All I wanted to do when we finished was sleep but we were told we had 15 minutes to rest before an hours pony trekking! Being there was one of my favourite places! Ali and I also went abseiling! When we were told it was 50 m I didnt think that sounded very high...until I saw it! But it was too late to back out so I did it! We have got it on video and it is so funny as I slip at one point and bang into the rock face and it takes me ages to scramble back into position. As you can imagine I look all arms and legs dangling from a rope, not in any way graceful! Also been sea kyaking. At one point we had dolphins swimming between the kyaks. Arrived in Cape Town on Wednesday and it is an amazing city. So far we have been to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope (The most south westerly point of Africa), seen penguins, been wine tasting and hiked up table mountain. The views from the top were stunning and luckily it was a really clear day so we could see for miles! I got to the top in 1hour 20 minutes which is a good time until you compare it to Alis time of 41minutes! Our tour finished yesterday and we have just over a week in Cape Town before heading to South America. Im sure there is lots that I have forgotten to write but you have the main points! Going to try and do as much as possible for the rest of our time here but time is going so quickly, cant believe I have been away for 4 months now! Hope you are all well Lots of Love kelly xxx
