Cape Town

Had a very busy week in Cape Town and have managed to do and see everything we wanted to!

We went on a few tours- the township was first and brilliant. We got to see how the majority of people in Cape Town really live and it was a real eye opener. We got to learn loads about the apartied and history of Cape Town so it was really interesting. We also had the opportunity to meet some of the people who live there and visit a womens empowerment centre and a kindergarten. It is a tour I would definately recommend to anyone heading to Cape Town!

We also went on a trip to Robben island, which is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. It was really interesting but there isnt anything there except the prison.

However, the best thing by far was going cage diving with Great White Sharks!!! We went yesterday and it was one of the best things I have done. The weather wasnt great and it was the only day all week that they have taken people out as the swell has been so high. So we wrapped up warm and headed out to sea with no guarentees that we would even see any sharks. As soon as we stopped the boat we saw one swimming right next to the boat and I couldnt believe how big they are! We got changed into our wetsuits and Ali and I were in the first group to go into the  cage. The water was freezing!!! I was shaking so much from cold I forgot to look out for sharks! The people on the boat would shout when to go under the water adn look. You didnt have scuba equipment but just held your breath. We saw a few straight away and they are massive but not at all scary like you would think. We were in the water for about 20 minutes and at the last moment a shark came right up to our cage and grabbed the bait, which they put out to get them to come closer. It was shaking it and trying to pull it off the hook in front of us and its tail was against the cage. It really was incredible!!! Ali went down a second time but the view from the boat was just as good as they are close to the surface. Got some great photos! In total we saw 6 sharks and I have totally changed my view of them!

Tomorrow we head to Buenos Aires! Everything is coming round so quickly! Still no idea what we are going to do in South America yet but planning on having Spanish lessons and Ive persuaded Ali to attend a tango class with me!! Wish me Luck!
