Ghana and Burkina Faso, West Africa Akwaba from West Africa! I arrived safely in Accra, Ghana, where my dear friends Phoebe and Jeff were waiting for me at the airport. Ghana was a nice transition country into West Africa because they speak English (well, some people speak some form of English). Our time in Accra was mostly spent trying to get onward visas for our next destinations and eating. Accra has tons of dining choices compared to Benin, where Phoebe and Jeff live. After Accra, we headed to the Cape Coast and Elmina to visit the castels, which were used as slave trading posts. It was very interesting to learn the history and view the horrific conditions involved in the slave trade. We also went to Kakum National Park, one of the few rainforests left in Southern Ghana. There, we had a fun time doing a hike on the wobbly suspension canopy walkway. Next, we headed to Kumasi, where we spent time immersing ourselves in the Ashanti culture. One of the highlights of Africa so far has to be the 24 hour bus ride from Ghana to Burkina Faso, where we are now...or not! Travel certainly is not smooth or easy here. It is difficult to figure out how to get from point a to point b. But the unique experience I am having is worth it. We are headed to Mali next for some trekking in Dogon country. Love, Susie
