Tribewanted Adventure Over... A Sad Day. Helloo there everyone in what i like to call the "real world" Life over the last two weeks has been organised by what can only be described as "Fiji Time" Fiji Time is this anomoly where there is NO time. Only the present, consequentialy things dont happen exactly as they are supposed to. For example i arrived at the airport nice and early, about an hour for a domestic flight. They looked at me, checked my baggage wieght, then wieghed me with my in flight bag on and told me to wait... "How long?" i say, "About an hour" so i wait and an hour goes by, i`d heard of fiji time but not seen it like this, in action. Being anxious to get to Vorovoro i went and asked at the counter, they just waved me over, so i relaxed and read my book and my flight was called. I wandered over and got my bag checked then i was through security (two women and a metal detector) and out on the landing strip. Yep the landing strip. And there was the choice of three planes, i was on number FJ81 which of course wasnt signposted. There was a sea plane a tiny plane and a slightly bigger one. I guessed the slightly bigger one and bobs your uncle i was on that one, and only about 45 mins later than i should have been. But hey! thats nothing in Fiji Time! I was greeted by an indian man in a tache, he was going to be my flight captain. Now if you dont know much Fijian history during the last 500 or so years The British wanted to grow lots of suger cane in Fiji which we colonised pretty early on. But there was one big problem, the Fijian people. They didnt want to work in cane fields for the white man. So we jolleyed on over to India and nabbed some people from there and thats that. The rest is history! Phrah Phrah Phrah (posh mans laugh) So pretty much you now have two different nations in Fiji, Indian and Fijian. I just think its really odd myself. The Indians dont speak Fijian and the Fijians dont speak Indian just everyone uses the comman langauge English! Hoorah! Anyway im rambling now. The plane was still tiny though only a 15 person plane, nice flight but i couldnt chat to anyone as the engines (which i could see through a crack in the doors) were very loud. Took about an hour and saw some cool scenery. Got to Labasa airport, which for those non believers IS just a shack! Fiji time kicked in again and i waited about an hour for. Made friends with this guy who looked kinda official (more by the way people were around him) and later found out he was actually the owner of the big taxi company Tribewanted uses! Made it into Labasa town itself (Lambasa) and met Giles and some other tribe members i would be spending time with on the Island. I think Ann and Family were there, Marie the Crazy american and maybe that was it. Got dragged off by loui into town to buy my sulu and shirt and most importantly my Kava. For those who dont know Kava is the national and traditional drink of Fiji. When you drink it you get a numbing sensation in the mouth and down the throat. Drink too much and the effect called Lamb-chopped comes into effect. Also Kava is a root plant pounded into and then powder strained like a tea bag into cold water. The taste is much like drinking a muddy puddle slash cold green tea. We drunk alot of this in the two weeks i was on the island. Anywho the approach to the island was spectacular. The sun was behind the island an i just soaked it in. Vorovoro is a magnificent island. The people are amazing and so are the Fijians around the Island, Labasa, Naqawanqa and the people who lived on Vorovoro itself. Ill just do a quick run down of what i did there as im running out of time, not Fiji time just internet time. day one and two and three were just really chilled just getting to know people there. Day Four Met tui Mali formally and presented my sevu sevu. My formal gift of Kava which allowed me to stay on the island and in thanks. I also did the four peaks hiking challenge that day. It can be done in less than Half An Hour, i did it in 4 and a half! Day 5 lazy day in a hammock Day 6 attended a tradtional Wedding in Naqawanga. We performed Meke and i filmed alot of it. was a really ace day, amazing food and amazing people day 7 cleaned Room, played volleyball Day 8 Retreived logs for shelves and performed with my marching band at a carnival we had on the island. Its amazing how much fun you can have on an island without booze! Day 9 Burnt back of Arms Day 10 Staggs left and i went crabbing almost caught a WHOPPER! Day 11 Was really ill with tonsalitus and stayed in bed all day, ladies bought me fijian medicine and got better very very quickly! Day 12 cant remember Day 13 Big meke at scondary school, 1000 people watching! Day 14 Lazy day, went crabbing and saw a shark!
