Sore feet in San Diego I have done so much walking over the past three days my feet are killing me. It`s easy to get around San Diego without a car, but having a car would make things so much easier. I caught the bus out to the Birch aquarium today and it took about an hour each way, whereas if I`d had a car it would have been half that. Of course the sore feet situation is not helped by me going the wrong way too and turning a ten minute walk down the hill to the aquarium into a 45min round trek in the blazing sun. The aquarium is really nice but it`s pretty small. i think I went around in about an hour and a half and that was dawdling, trying to spot all the fish in the tanks and get photos of them It did have some pretty cool jelly fish displays which I don`t remember seeing at other aquariums and they also had both weedy and leady seadragons on display. When you put them side by side like that (they were in the same tank) they look so different. Another higlight was a small display that had two baby sharks as well as two eggs casings with baby sharks in them. In one of the egg casings, you could actually see the fully formed shark wiggling around. From there, I went on a bit of a hunt through La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shores looking for a dive shop as I needed some wax for my drysuit zip. The beach looked great (although not as good as the beaches at home) and was packed and La Jolla Cove (i think) had a really nice upmarket shopping area that would be good to explore more. From there, I caught the bus back into the city and wanted to head up to Calibrillo Monument, which is home to an old lighthouse and has specuatular views over San Diego. However, I had piss farted around that morning which meant I missed the last bus of the evening up there (Stuipd me didn`t check the timetable and the last bus left at 5.15). So that`s about it for my three days in San Diego. There is so much to see and do - I didn`t go and explore the USS Midway, or do a harbour cruise (although I did take the ferry across to Coronado Island), I didn`t get to the Wildlife Park, or explore any of the Muesums in balboa park and not to mention all the beaches in the area. That will be all from me until I get back from the sharks!
