Bigfoot's World Tour!
No Photos 4th Dec 2008 - 17th Jan 2009
The other side of Thailand

Krabi was a really lovely place to be, especially as we stumbled upon a bargain place to stay, it even had a sea view! It was so cheap because all the bungalows were being built, and this was one of only a couple that were actually finished. We spent the next few days chilling on the beaches and eating nice food. Nothing wrong with that! There was one night we played pool in a strange little bar and after 4 cocktails all decided to tuck ourselves up in bed, and it was only half nine! We originally went back to the room to drop off some stuff, but the cocktails were so strong we could barely keep our eyes open and passed out. I woke up later that night at around 1am and went out on a water run to the 7/11. On the way I met the old favourite... A lady of the night. I had a little chat with her as she followed me back towards my room trying to get some business. I tried to tell her that perhaps since she`d been working away as a barmaid all night she should maybe take herself off home to bed instead of walking the streets, but she was having none of it... They`ll never learn. We also did a really cool 4 islands tour in Krabi. I should point out at this moment in time that my camera is officially broken. So there`ll be no pictures of any of this, which is a real shame, because some of the places we saw on this tour were amazing. One was called Sea Beach, and it was basically a really thin strip of beach in the middle of the sea that linked 2 islands together. You could walk across it and basically from certain angles it looked as if you were walking on water, really cool! We did some snorkeling out at sea and explored some caves too, before Teresa and Vik jumped into the sea off a massive rock. As most of you know, I`m not the bravest with things like that, and I was wearing white board shorts. Wouldn`t have been a good combination! The next morning we set off to Koh Samui, the 2nd biggest island in Thailand. We decided not to head for the busiest beach, so went for the 2nd instead, called Lamai. It was so beautiful! And our theme of finding hotels that aren`t quite finished yet totally paid off again! We ended up in what was basically a 5 star hotel, but for a fraction of the price as it was a pre-opening special. We were the first people ever to have slept in our room, and I think among the first to have stayed in the hotel. It was such a cool hotel, one of the best things was the little control panel on the bedside table that did everything from turn on the bathroom light to turn up the volume on the tv.For the next few days we hired a jeep to see more of the island, it was such a good feeling to be driving again. Felt a little weird at first, especially since the steering wheel didn`t seem connected to the axle and all the drivers in Thailand are insane, but we soon got the hang of it! We also found the best restaurant in the world. We`d eaten a couple of crap meals so far in Koh Samui when we stumbled upon Coast. A really nice classy restaurant, that did amazing food for about a pound more than all the other horrible places on the island, we decided to not eat anywhere else while we were here. We were probably getting a little too used to this 5 star lifestyle. We had one really good night where we met up with Charlotte and Melissa who we`d met in Chiang Mai. We all went out for the night and ended up rather predictably at 3am at the beach. I think partly because we wanted to gloat and show the girls our hotel. After we`d got those 2 into a taxi me and Teresa went to McDonalds... God knows why! And ended up chatting away in there til 8am. We just lost track of time really, but soon noticed it again when the people who worked there were looking over laughing at us. We`d gone in when it was dark and left in broad daylight!!! After a few cool days in Koh Samui we headed to Koh Phangan... Full Moon Party island! From all I`d heard about it, and the amazing time we`d had in Samui, and in our hotel, we were all a bit dubious about going. But it turned out really well. Our bungalow here is also gorgeous. I`m sitting right now looking out onto the sea, the beach is literally 2 metres from the door! We ditched the full moon party in the end, for a number of reasons really. It`s a bit annoying because it`s costing us nearly double to be here at the time it`s on, but it`s probably for the best. And even though some of you will think we`re crazy for being here and not at least going to look at the party, the place is again so gorgeous it doesn`t matter. And that`s that, we`re off back to Samui in a few days to again stay in our 5 star pad before I head off to Kuala Lumpur, and then Australia!During our time in Koh Phangan we also found the least accessible bar in the world. It`s luckily also pretty damn cool! Along from our beach the coastline turns to rocks and giant boulders. We decided to swim around these boulders along the coast to explore a bit. We never expected to find what we did, a bar that you could only reach by swimming to it! We had a few drinks in there and chatted to the French reggae guy who owned it. He was a really cool guy, he told us there was a more usual way to enter the bar than the way we came. But we left by this more usual way, and it still involved swimming to another unfinished resort and wandering through there until we found a road. I get the feeling that the fumes of his reggae lifestyle may have hindered his ability to remember things, and maybe although he managed to build his bar, he forgot to put in the road to get to it!We also kayaked to an island one of the days which was pretty awesome. We had the whole place to ourselves and got to explore the caves and chill on the beach. Was a really cool day. After Koh Phangan we headed back to Koh Samui and our favourite hotel! We enjoyed our last few days together there and set up our trips to Bangkok then England for the girls, and Kuala Lumpur to Australia for me!...
