Many people think that they will not become disable at any stage of life. But the chances of becoming disabled are greater than they realize. So what next if you have become disabled? There is no doubt to say that life would be hell after being disabled. But the good news is that you can still enjoy various benefits of disability. Various types of benefits can be provided to the disabled people according to their type of disability. Also various benefit programs are available to the people to avail the benefits of disability. Social security and supplemental security income disability programs provide assistance to individuals with disabilities.
Social security disability insurance provides benefits to you and your family members if you are 'insured' means that you have worked very long and paid social security taxes. Supplemental security income provides benefits depending upon economic need. Basically to avail disability benefits you must meet two earning tests which are different from each other:
• A “recent work” test related to your age when you was disabled at that time • A “duration of work” test showing that under social security you have worked for a longer period.
Many things should be kept in mind when resolving the quantity of a disability benefit likely to receive from your disability insurance. These includes your approximate spending, income and other such things. Also you must keep in mind what you have available financially like expenditure, social security gains of disability and you partner's income.
Some of the other disability benefit programs includes employer disability program, state disability insurance program, worker's compensation disability insurance benefits, veteran's disability insurance benefits and many more. Under employer disability program some employees pay 100 percent of disability insurance premiums and eligible employees get the desired benefits. Also some offers disability insurance benefits at discounted group rates and give eligible employees the option to elect coverage.
Under veteran's disability insurance benefits, the veteran's benefits administration offers two disability benefit programs. These are:
• Disability compensation- In this a monthly monetary amount to eligible employees veterans are given who are atleast 10% disabled as a result of military service including physical injuries, physical and mental diseases and many more.
• Disability pension- In this an annual monetary pension is spread equally over 12 months to eligible wartime veterans who can't work and have limited income or who are 65 and older.
These disability benefits are not only for the adult populace as even children can also apply for disability benefits. Your child must meet the following requirements to be considered disabled. These are:
• Your child must not be working and earning more than $900 a month. • Your child must have a physical or mental condition that results in marked and severe functional limitations. • Your child conditions must be lasted at least 12 months or must be expected to result in death.
