Liv's off to Ecuador!

Chichaaaaaaaaa helloooo! sorry for lack of communication, been BUSY! quick update.... a few weeks ago we travelled up to Quito (the capital) to do a holiday club there, and stayed with Lizzie, an BMS worker from England. This week was really good, but mad... the pastor picked us up at 8am to go to a school to teach and play games with the kids. we got back to the house at about 1:30pm, grabbed some lunch and left again at 2 to do a holiday club in a really remote area. got back from this at about 7. eat, sleep. me and rach were ill on this week with flu, minor altitude stuff, so we got to skive out of some of it (which was not a good thing... ive never been so bored in my life, spending an entire day at home by myself, wrapped in about seventy billion blankets) (its cold in Quito) After Quito, we went into the Jungle, to a teeny community called Chai (consists of possibly twenty houses max.) with Lizzie and an Ecuadorian pastor called Jaime. We stayed in Chai, in a wooden hut used by one of the families to store stuff and dry clothes, and went to a different community each day to round up the kids there and do a holiday club day with them. Despite having taken food in with us, we were also cooked for, and treated to some delicacies like salted palm hearts baked in palm leaves, and Chicha. Chicha is a drink made by chewing a vegetable (such as plantain), spitting the resulting goop out and letting it ferment. Dilute it a bit with water, and voila! Trust me, it is the most disgusting thing i have ever (and will ever... i hope) taste. and we had huge mugs each. During the last two weeks, i have preached twice in two different churches in spanish (saying it still feels weird... cant believe ive done it!) ironically, preached on "stepping out of the boat" haha! but they both went really well, and i think my own message was what i needed to hear. This next week we`re doing a holiday club at Los Vergeles, the church we worked in for 3 months at the beginning of our time in Ecuador. We went to the service last night, which, for me, was the first time in los vergeles for more than a month, and it felt a bit like coming home. so im really looking forward to this week and working with some people that we ALREADY know (dont need to be quite so polite all the time!!) including Santiago, a 15 year old boy who was in Rach`s English class. He started coming to the services to see his friends and to practise more english with us, but would refuse to sing, and would talk all through the sermons. A couple of weeks ago, though, he went on a christian camp and absolutely loved it, and has come back absolutely buzzing. hes now learning guitar so he can lead worship, is helping in our holiday club, and is coming to every church related event he possibly can. Anyway, better go and do some actual work now! love you all! xxx
