Destiny
21st Sep 2009 - 1st Oct 2009
Boy, have we've been on the move!

Well, there we were early last Tuesday morning all dressed up in our city slicker clothes, suitcases packed, when the message came thru' from Jules that they would be arriving late on Thursday night and not Wednesday. There was no point in arriving in Ft Lauderdale ahead of her so on went the work clothes and back to the grindstone for us hill billies!
The trip down to Florida was long and nerve-racking, you must remember that we live quietly alongside the river all week and then take a country road into town over the weekend to catch up with Destiny.. Okay, we do have a bit of traffic going to Gallipolis from Point Pleasant but nothing to sweat about..Forget the cement highway from Pretoria to Jo'burg, this is serious stuff with hundreds of trucks gunning down on either side of us, man it's scary! Anyway, we survived all that and arrived in Ft Lauderdale in one piece, it really is more relaxing doing things by boat. On the positive side it took us 5 seasons on the boat to get to West Virginia and about 18hrs in the car to get back to where it all started!
Julia looks great after her ocean crossing and we had great fun together and managed to do a fair amount of sightseeing in the 3 days we had together.
We hooked up with 2 of Julia's crew members on Thursday afternoon and went down to a Tiki Bar on Miami Beach where they enjoyed some well earned cocktails. We also found the marina that we set off from in 1997, it made us realise just how far we'd travelled since then. They insisted on pizzas for dinner, they had been dreaming about them the whole crossing, they were huge so we had lunch sorted for Friday.
The 3 Coates' hit the road the next morning and meandered up the lovely scenic route that runs along the intracoastal waterway, oh, what happy memories and lovely for Jules to see where it all started. We travelled across the Everglades to the west coast of Florida and were fortunate enough to see an alligator in the wild, man, it was huge! It swam over so quietly and just looked up at us as if to say okay, so where's the grub? Julia offered him a leaf, come on what was she thinking!!
We meandered back the next day so that we didn't have too far to travel on Monday as Jules was flying out in the afternoon. Poor Skipper, Builder J wore his Driver's cap with such patience, his two girls do lead him on a merry dance sometimes.
We dropped Julia and Kirsten off at the airport on Monday afternoon and hit the long road home... Julia flew half way round the world and was tucked up in bed in Cape Town long before we arrived home on Tuesday evening, crazy hey!
Julia would have loved to have come home with us but would have had to forfeit her pay and her ticket home, it just wasn't viable, it would have been great though.
So here we are back to building our lovely cabin, another load of timber arrived today, sometimes I'm treated like such a boy! That stuff is very heavy and I am a granny, you know....
