Another week in wild and wonderful West Virginia

This last week has been giving us a hint of the chilly temperatures to come..the weathermen in this part of the world really battle to get it right. We've now worked out if they say that we are in for a cold spell, throw the jerseys away and the prediction for sun usually means long johns and jackets. On Friday the emergency beep..beep on the TV warned us that we were on a tornado warning and all hell would break loose in 10 mins..I ran down to Builder J and gave him the warning as packing up takes a few minutes on the building site. The skies were pretty black so at least we knew we'd get some rain. When I got back to the camper the announcer was giving advice on what precautions to be taken.. Yea right, hit the basement, haven't got one of those, seek shelter in a room in middle of your house and if all else fails climb into a cupboard..We looked at the fridge, nay, we'd take our chances and just sit it out in the camper.
Well, needless to say the tornado never arrived( not supposed to get them here, anyway) and when the rain came the temperature shot up to 27 and we were back into short sleeve shirts, that after starting the day in 3 layers of clothing!! CRAZY..
Now that we've got the weather out of the way, it's been another productive week and the cabin is looking good. The roofing arrives tomorrow and the logs for the siding on Wednesday, Cath, you must be feeling relieved about that.
We took a midweek trip into Point Pleasant and enjoyed a lovely home cooked meal at Emma's Place, the local diner, a real treat as we are usually out in the sticks from Sunday to Saturday when we put our city slicker clothes on and head for the boat club. We couldn't believe how the trees had changed colours in 4 days, it's really getting pretty driving down the country lanes and the best is yet to come.
We went down to the boat club on Saturday and were the only boaters on our dock, quite a few of the boats have already been taken out for winter and is was quite chilly so we figure the others stayed home in front of the fire.
Sunday morning started chilly but turned into a lovely day and we took the old girl out for a putter on the Ohio, probably the last of the season, it was great to be back out on the river and enjoy the autumn colours from the water.
We then went off to Bob Evans Farm Festival, which is an annual event held about 15 minutes from Gallipolis and it was great fun. Bob Evans is a restaurant chain and this farm is where it all started.
So after all that fun we came home and as there was still an hour or two of light so Builder J decided it was time to climb the big tree which hangs menacingly over the cabin and teach it a lesson with his chainsaw! I was dispatched with a thick rope up onto the railway line that runs above the property and told to pull with all my might when I heard TIMBER! Man, I really tried, but as I've said before I'm a granny now, and I almost managed to hold it off the cabin, okay, I didn't manage, but no damage was done. Whew! It was more nerve racking watching this madman jumping around in the tree with his chainsaw than the branches landing on the cabin.
We were exhausted after all that so left the cleanup for this morning, you'll be pleased to hear that we're all back to normal and getting on with building the cabin. We have decided not to put up the 2nd floor this year so J is making a plan to put the roof sheeting up to protect what has been completed.
A big thank you to Geoff for trying to track down Frank and Lyn, who we now know are safe and sound after dodging the tsunami..
Have a great week and we'll keep you posted on the progress..we head off to Houston on 21st to see our family, we are flying this time, the driver has gone on strike! What's a 19hr drive, I ask you..

Next: What a week!
Previous: Boy, have we've been on the move!
