Bolivia... into the wild

Finally have internet access hurrah!! Will try and update what i have been up to as best i can but has been quite a week so i will probably forget lots. Well we left Salta and Argentina in the morning and after a longgg and exhausting day of travel (great scenery mind you) we crossed the Bolivian border at Villazon and then continued onto Tupiza, Here we were actuelly greeted in te street by the proprietor of the hostel we had booked, Raoul a truly decent Bolivian dude, and he took us in and after a quick dinner we settled in for the night. The next morning refreshed we had a look around, ate some llama tamales (yum!) and then went on a 3 hr horseride through the desert - amazing! it was like being in a western, we even got cowboy hats! My horse was a big white mare and she was much better behaved than the boys lazy chicos :) Unfortunately my camera went kaput almost as soon as we started which was really annoying but i should be able to get pictures from Mike and John.

The next day we ser off on our 4 day tour of the salt flats, there were 2 jeeps of 4 and we really struck lucky with our groups and the guide and cook we had - cool as a cucumber Vincente and smiley Hector looked after us really well. In our jeep we had clara from argentina and then in the other were tash and sylvie and ian and liz all from the uk - fine people all! The scenery was incredible, mountains, lakes, lagoons, geysers, desert, hot springs, flamingos, llamas emus and more! Alas catastrophe stuck for me when on the 3rd day i came down with either a stomach bug or food poisoning and from lunchtime onwwards i couldnñt keep anything down - not fun when u r in a jeep so sorry folks that had to endure that with me! every1 was so kind tho as i did feel really rough, Liz cooled my brow with a damp cloth and made me feel so much better :) I think i am now dinally on the road to recovery, have kept down a days worth of meals! It was such a shame that i missed out on so much of the final 2 days but i am grateful to have been with such kind ppl who i really hope i will see again along the way somewhere.

So now we are in the mining town of Potosi, hoping to go and visit a mine, however there appears to be a strike going on so at the moment we are not sure a) if there will be any miners there and b) if we will be able to leave Potosi in the near future as all the roads are blockaded! ah well this is Bolivia after all ...
