Up, up and away

So off we flew to Houston on Wednesday 21st with the remnants of Hurricane Rick threatening to reach there as we arrived..luckily we won that race but boy, did it bucket down the next day. Looking down from the plane when we took off from Columbus, Ohio at the splendour of the fall colours below was awesome, you'll just have to take my word for it as not even the best camera could tell the story!!
It was wonderful spending time with our lovely little family in good ol' Texas. Daniel is the loveliest little chap and gave us a wonderful welcome. Naturally, he is the cutest and brightest child on the planet, don't even bother trying to debate that fact!!
Paul and Gilli had planned a lovely road trip for us and we set off on Friday morning for Rockport on the coast, a town east of Corpus Christi. We stayed in an inn opposite one of the numerous marinas and it was great to be back among boats that have masts! We had a lovely meal at a restaurant that is built over the water and they threw in a spectactular sunset as a memorable finishing touch. Daniel even ordered his meal off the kiddies menu...told you he was clever!
We set off the next morning for San Antonio, about 3 hours drive inland from Rockport. What a gem..we all have vowed to get back there. They have a section of the town called the Riverwalk, hotels, restaurants and shops line the bank and the atmosphere is wonderful. It is a very touristy town and you can't help but be swept along by the vibe..very colourful boats take visitors on a sightseeing tour on the water and that looked like great fun but time was not on our side..we'll have to go back to do that someday..We had a lovely dinner at one of the many restaurants on the water's edge and once again Daniel ordered from the kiddies menu, I was keen to have what he had chosen but the waiter figured that I was older than 12 and didn't want to know my troubles..spoil sport!!
After meandering down the riverwalk again on Sunday morning we hopped into the car and head back to Houston. The countryside varies greatly, very windswept trees on the coast, quite desolate going towards San Antonio and it gets greener and greener as you approach Houston. Paul and Gilly were based in Sugarland, on the outskirts of Houston, beautifully green with many houses lining the numerous waterways, we were very pleasantly surprised as we'd heard such negative things about Houston.
We flew back on Tuesday and our goodbyes were made easier as we meet up with them again in 5 weeks time in SA. Yippeeee!!
Thank You Paul and Gilli for a lovely week and all the planning that went into our road trip, it was worth all the air turbulence on our entire trip home followed by 3hrs of rain we had to drive thru' to get back home!
So back to the grindstone for Builder J today, we can now lock our front door ( sides are still open, but so what) and the wood sidings are going up at quite a lick. We have good warm weather arriving for the next few days so I guess Painter L will have to do her thing and start slapping the stain onto the wood siding.
Lovely chatting to you today Peter the Aus, and hope that you do manage to get out to the States next year.

Next: Wow, it's looking so good
