Peace Corps, Moldova
10th Nov 2009
Blah, Blah

Luckily, I was spared going to Pat's host familie's house like I had mentioned. I say luckily because still recovering from my illness and I really didn't feel like drinking a bunch of house-wine. Instead, on Friday, we made dinner at Jessica's apartment. I made a sauce using the drived mushrooms Mrs. Scheurich sent me - it was strange. The girls made lettuce wraps which were very good.
Saturday was interesting, in that I witnessed my first Moldovan football game. The teams were FC Zimbur and FC Tiraspol. The two teams clashed and tied on Sunday afternoon and left me wishing I had attended more matches during the summer. In any event, the weather was beautiful and we had a great time, eating peanuts and drinking $1 pints in the stands (a lot cheaper than $10 beers at D-Backs games).
On Saturday night, I headed up to JT's site in Sodova to make some nachos and chili. It was an uneventful night filled with over-eating and sleep. I made it back to my site on Sunday around noon, in time to get a run in and then head to my host sister's beauty pageant. The 'pageant' consisted of the usual Miss America stuff, but also included some other interesting acts including Tsigani (politically correct for “Gypsy”) belly dancing and a dance troupe from Cahul. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera to the event. I particularly wanted to photograph the guest models who were wearing this seasons fashion (or something to that effect) because they were ...ahem... less than fully-clothed.
We have another week of work off, due to the swine-flu and I've been spending much of my time in my room, reading and writing. I almost wish we had work this week – almost. What I need to do is get started on finding funding for the new toilets and plumbing that my school director mentioned to me. Instead I've been writing around a short story, playing guitar, running, eating and surfing the internet.
There isn't much else to say. After going through a beautiful week -weather-wise – November is rearing its ugly head and it has been cloudy, cold and misting for two days now. Apparently the sun is supposed to come out later in the week, but we shall see. It makes me miss November in Phoenix, where you can wear a T-shirt all day and night.
