A sunrise, a bus, a professor and some tears!!! So on sunday (22nd Nov) I got up at 4am to see the sunrise again over Angkor Wat, my guide 'Mr T' (lots of the cambodians give themselves this nickname as they think it gives the impression that they are strong i.e. Mr T from the A Team - in reality my guide couldn't look further from that), who had driven me round for the previous 2 days decided he was david bailey and took a million pictures from the same spot which inevitably meant by battery died before we had visited 2 other temples, one of which turned out to be the most beautiful and my favourite... unlucky Clo, as I have no pictures to prove I climbed it! So after the temples, Mr T finally dropped me back at the hoetl for which I was grateful, number one I'd been on the motorbike for 3 days by this point and I'm sure you can imagine which bits of me were getting a bit sore and number two, after this long with the same person I was glad to seperate from Mr T. Now don't get me wrong, he was lovely but trying to communicate for 3 days got a bit much and he's started to get a bit too familiar (don't worry mum, nothing I couldn't handle!). However, I had to see him one last time as he was dropping me off at the bus station. We said our goodbyes and I paid him $40 dollars for the 3 days which i think was bloody good value! I got on the bus and breathed a sigh of relief as although I had, had an incredible time in Siem Reap, it was very dusty and dirty and I was looking forward to staying in a nice city (phenm Penh). As a got settled a BIG american guy came and sat next to me, explaining politely that he had been allocated the seat next to me, and wouls sit there until the bus left then he would endevour to find a free seat so we could have more room. He seemed cool and I was welcome of some company, different to Mr T. BUT.... to my horror, just as the American introduced himself as Jordan and we'd begun chatting, what do I see but Mr T boarding the bus! My heart sank and I wondered what the hell he was doing? He said he was going to travel 4 hours on the bus and pick some travellers up from the Laos border and take them back to Siem Reap. So basically he asked me to sit with him, I felt obliged but I was seething inside and thought 'just my bloody luck, I thought I'd escaped'. I ended up putting my Ipod on and pretending to fall asleep! The plan worked until the bus stopped for a comfort break, however Jordan saved me by seeing my looks of 'help', and he came over and joined us. Mr T was then only on the bus for another 1/2 hour so it was fne and I ended up feeling I'd been a bit irrational and tight towards him... oh well! So when we arrive in Siem Reap me and Jordan (this is where the professor but somes into it)decide to check out some hotels together, we ended up staying in a great little hotel with a balcony looking across the river which was amazing. We got some dinner and what felt like an hour of chatting, turned into an 8 hour marathon chat. He was so on my wave length and a real pleasure to have spent my last night in cambodia with. (Jordan if you read this, I'm not just creeping so i can some to San Fransico)! So I have to leave the nutty professor the next afternoon after having a lazy breakfast and another few hours of putting the World to rights! I flew to Bangkok (finally called Mum, Nan and Emma which was the first lot of tears of the day), then straight onto Ko Sumai. Now I'd already booked and paid for a hotel for the night as I knew I'd be arriving late. A rep from the hotel was supposed to be picking me up from the airport, but of course understanding my luck, no-one was there. I waited for a good 45 mins, but finally got a taxi, but when I reached the hotel it was all dark and the doors were locked. This was the time I really did have tears, in fact, I admit I was full blown crying. I think i was tired, sad to have left Jordan and just didn't know what to do. Luckily a lovely guy from the hotel net door heard me and explained that it was a common occurence and offered to let me stay in his hotel for free until I could contact the other hotel rep in the morning. Now this turned out to my advantage as this hotel was much better than the one I had booked, it had an amazing bath tub and I used the spa facilities in the morning. However the owner of the hotel I was supposed to be staying at was not bothered when I told him what had happended, until I kicked up a fuss in front of some other guests and he ended up giving me a full refund... bonus, that meant I'd stayed in a top notvh hotel for free. I tried to give the nice hotel owner a tip, but he wouldn't accept. However I promised him i would write some amazing reviews about his hotel on trip advisor etc and he was made up with that! So for the last 5 days I've just been chilling on the beach in the day as I'm desperate to get my tan back, I'm so pasty now, it's terrible. On a night time I've not really been drinking (shock horror, but it's true). I'm not so impressed with Ko Sumai which I'm surprised about as I'd heard really good things. I've not met up with anyone so I've just been having a nice meal on a night time and going for a walk etc. This hasn't been too bad though as it has allowed me to get up early, and as the sun leaves the beach at around 4am, I've needed to catch the early sun. However my early nights will finish tomorrow as I'm off to Ko phangan where the full moon parties are held (Claire davies - airmail me the wellies). I'm meeting up with a few different groups of people over the next week, so I'm very excited. BUT I'm even more excited about the fact that my lovely Mummy is flying back out on the 6th!!!! I've missed her so much since she left and we're going to go to Krabi and Phi Phi etc. Hope you're all ok.. please post me some more messages as I'm missing you all loads now. (Lou, email me directly on calamityclo@hotmail.com) Love you xxxxxx
